Tom Aspinall says that he has agreed terms for a fight with Jon Jones, with further news to come in the next few weeks.
The interim heavyweight champion has been in hot pursuit of Jones, and perhaps more importantly his undisputed title, for the best part of two years. And despite his rival’s protestations, it seems that Dana White is going to deliver the clash in 2025.
It has been branded potentially the biggest heavyweight clash in UFC history, with arguably the greatest fighter of all time taking on a much bigger and seemingly unbeatable contender. And if Aspinall gets his way, it will happen sooner rather than later.
Tom Aspinall provides positive Jon Jones fight update
For the past few months, Tom Aspinall has been fairly clear about how he will take whatever deal is on the table for a fight with Jon Jones. He has played a blinder with regards public relations, masterfully choosinghis media outlets for interviews and keeping the fight in the news cycle.
And according to a new update in a video for his YouTube channel, this all may be about to add up to an imminent fight deal. “I’m just waiting at the minute,” he explained to fans. “I’ve said yes to the fight, I’ve agreed to it, obviously.
“That’s it, I’m just waiting for his side and the UFC to sort it out. I’m just training and getting everything focused to be as fit and ready as I possibly can. Because who knows? They might spring the date on me quick!
“Or they might say ‘the date’s going to be in six months’, I don’t know. But that’s always king of what happens between fights anyway, you never really know when your next one is so I’m just preparing now.
“There’s no dates yet but there’s an opponent there, so we’re just getting fit really, getting the body ready and the mind all in sync towards the next opponent and the next date. We’re waiting to find out when that is. I should imagine we’re going to find out in the next couple of weeks so it’s all good.”
Dana White rubbished reports of a $30million purse for Jon Jones
There had been reports stemming from a Joe Rogan podcast that Jones was set to make in the region of $30million for the bout. He had previously declared that in order to face Aspinall he would need ‘f*** you money’, which would render the eventual result of the fight inconsequential.
However, after the reports spread across the sport, Rogan was forced to issue a correction after Dana White called him to clarify that what he had heard was not true. Speaking with Theo Von, Rogan noted that fans shouldn’t expect fight news from him, despite his role as a commentator on major events.

“I have to correct something because there was a conversation I had with Yannis Pappis and Chris DiStefano,” he began. “We were talking about Jon Jones and I had heard a rumor that Jon Jones wanted $30million to fight Tom Aspinall and I did hear that rumor and I did hear that the UFC said yes.
“But it is not true, Dana contacted me and said that rumor is bulls***. So I felt obligated to tell everybody that was a fake rumor. I don’t even remember because unfortunately we did that podcast two weeks ago, I don’t remember who told me that.”
