UFC fan favorite Tony Ferguson’s next fight is inching closer to potentially taking place on an up-and-coming platform.
Tony Ferguson’s most recent showcase in the UFC Octagon might’ve been his last hurrah with the promotion after a long-decorated tenure. If that’s the case, one of his former rivals might’ve leaked his next move in free agency.
As of this writing, Ferguson’s return timeline is uncertain. Despite calls from many fans and pundits for Ferguson to walk away following a lengthy losing skid, Ferguson is looking ahead to what might be next for him in his fighting career.
Since falling to Michael Chiesa at UFC Abu Dhabi in August, Ferguson has teased a comeback on social media and implored the promotion to book him a fight. Several potential opponents have been thrown around, including a returning UFC Hall of Famer.
If Ferguson parts ways from the UFC, as hinted by UFC CEO Dana White, his former interim title foe says the fan-favorite is in talks to make a move to MMA’s latest promotion addition, Global Fight League.

Kevin Lee hints Tony Ferguson rematch is being discussed in Global Fight League
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, former UFC lightweight Kevin Lee claimed the GFL is in active talks to sign Ferguson.
“The name that interests me the most is Tony Ferguson, he’s had his ups and downs in his career, but we’ve had a great fight for the UFC championship,” Lee said of Ferguson. “That’s something that a lot of people can get behind, and that’s a fight that I really, really want. April 4th is the first event, we’re about four months out…
Lee was then pressed about what he may know about Ferguson’s potential GFL signing.
“Yeah, he’s in talks with [the GFL],” Lee alleged.
As of this writing, Ferguson hasn’t responded to Lee’s comments. Ferguson defeated Lee for the interim lightweight champion at UFC 216, headlining an important event in Las Vegas just days after a mass shooting in the city.
Kevin Lee says Tony Ferguson speaking with GFL amidst cloudy UFC future
Ferguson has lost eight fights in a row since a doctor stoppage victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 238. Since then, he’s suffered recent defeats to the likes of Nate Diaz, Paddy Pimblett, and Michael Chandler.
Lee’s planned return to fighting comes almost a full year after announcing his retirement. His last MMA victory came against Thiago Oliveira at Lights Out Championship 17 in September.
Ferguson vs. Lee 2 could be on the horizon for both fighters, especially if Ferguson joins the GFL. In the meantime, the former interim champion’s future remains foggy.
