‘Take Michael Chandler out’… Lightweight rankings blasted by overlooked 11-1 UFC star

A UFC star is fuming that Michael Chandler is still in the lightweight rankings, telling the promotion to remove him immediately.

While immensely entertaining, ‘Iron’ hasn’t recorded a victory inside the octagon since 2022.

Grant Dawson wants Michael Chandler out of the UFC rankings

Michael Chandler is undeniably one of the biggest names in the lightweight division, with the American renowned for his explosive knockouts and brutal wars of attrition inside the cage.

However, with the warrior losing two consecutive fights, his number seven position in the UFC rankings has caused a degree of controversy.

Grant Dawson is particularly upset with the situation his division finds itself in.

The 11-1 competitor, who is currently preparing to go head-to-head with Diego Ferreira at UFC 311 on January 18, has refused to bite his tongue.

During an interview with Inside Fighting, he said: “There are people who do not belong in the top 15 let alone the top 10. If you look at somebody like Michael Chandler, he’s 2-4 in the UFC. You put his record up against my record, 11-1 in the UFC, assuming I beat Diego.

“11-1 in the UFC compared to 2-4 in the UFC, and you say, ‘Yeah, the 11-1 guy [is] not ranked. The 2-4 guy ranked in the top ten, top seven.’ It doesn’t make any sense.”

The fighter added: “You’ve got these guys, they’re not looking to fight the up-and-comers. They need to take Michael Chandler out of there.”

UFC legend says Michael Chandler is the greatest fighter of the modern era

While Dawson clearly isn’t Chandler’s biggest fan, there are plenty of other respected mixed martial artists who highly rate the icon’s skill set.

In fact, one in particular has gone much further than just merely giving the power puncher his flowers.

This former UFC champion believes the gifted grappler is the greatest fighter of the modern era.
