Theo Von and Dustin Poirier reflect on loss to Justin Gaethje

Throughout his career, Dustin Poirier has proven himself as a true icon of the sport, giving the fans a plethora of epic fights.

Unfortunately, however, while he’s had his fair share of big wins, his clash with Justin Gaethje ended in disaster.

In the second round, a head kick connected with the Louisianian’s chin, leaving him flat on the canvas in one of the most destructive finishes of 2023.

In the aftermath of the contest, he headed backstage with his team and good friend, Theo Von.

On an episode of This Past Weekend, Poirier explained: “Losing sucks, especially when you work so hard. With fighting, everything goes into it. I put myself into this for real.”

This prompted his buddy to reminisce: “I remember sitting in your green room. It felt like we were at a funeral in a weird way, but you were right there.”

Poirier replied: “I told everybody that in there, ‘This isn’t a funeral’.” This prompted a huge laugh from Von, who utilized his stand-up comedy experience, to make light of the situation.

He chuckled: “You’re going around trying to boost people’s spirits.”

Poirier chuckled: “You put on a black suit; I don’t even know where you got it.”

The comic then burst into song, claiming everyone in the room, delivered an awe-inspiring performance of Chester D.T. Baldwin’s ‘I Still Hear Mama Praying’.

The fighter then claimed: “Somebody stood up and said, ‘He was a good man’. I’m right here, bro.”

UFC star claims he’d submit Dustin Poirier

After losing to Gaethje, the warrior showed off his fighting spirit, bouncing back in a big way with a submission victory over Benoit Saint Denis.

This earned the American a shot at Islam Makhachev for lightweight gold. Alas, despite an incredible effort, he ended up succumbing to the Russian’s sublime grappling, losing via submission.

Upon analyzing the fight, a ranked 155-pounder has claimed that he’d defeat the popular brawler as well.
