‘Me and Leon make the most sense’… Former UFC champion called out for homecoming fight by 17-1 contender

Across the first three months of 2025, the UFC are set to host events in various locations around the world including Saudi Arabia, Australia, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

Given how the upcoming UFC London card in March will be a Fight Night event and not a PPV, there’s sadly no chance of interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall headlining.

Consequently, there are only two British fighters who have the pulling power to headline the O2 Arena, Scouse superstar Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett, or former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

17-1 contender makes his case to fight Leon Edwards at UFC London

‘Rocky’ currently sits as the #1 ranked welterweight in the world, but with Shavkat Rakhmonov next in line for the welterweight champion, Edwards likely needs to earn one more win before he’s back in title contention.

Luckily, he’s just been called out for a main event showdown at UFC London, a fight that would indeed see him enter that title conversation; against 17-1 American, Sean Brady.

Speaking via The Ariel Helwani Show, Brady would make his case for the Edwards fight, citing both the current schedule and standings: “If you look at the rankings and you look at how everything is playing out, and who’s available – me and Leon make the most sense.

“I think for me, historically, I would want to go somewhere and prove myself because my first loss did come while I was traveling to Belal [Muhammad] and I am a completely different fighter now… I just want to prove to myself that I can go somewhere, go into someone’s backyard and win a fight.”

“My wife is due in February, so March might be kind of soon, but to fight Leon, [who is] a number one contender in his home, and like your boys were saying yesterday, if I win that fight, I think I am in title contention.”

Simply put, the reward of beating the former champion in enemy territory is too good of an opportunity for Brady to pass up, even if there is a risk of losing out on family time during camp.

However, should that fight fail to materialize, Brady would also love the chance to fight on the rumored UFC Fight Night card in Miami – Jorge Masvidal recently teased that event will take place in April 2025.

“So, it’s worth the risk to go over there and fight Leon, beat him at home… If not though, I’ve heard they’re coming to Miami in April… I would like to do that because realistically, if my wife’s due February 13th [then] that definitely kind of pushes it – but like I said, the risk is worth the reward for fighting Leon.”

UFC London card has six fights confirmed, including Top 10 LHW showdown

Sean Brady vs Leon Edwards is undoubtedly a main event-worthy fight for UFC London, with six fights having already been confirmed for that card on March 22.

Former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz is scheduled to face surging Kiwi Carlos Ulberg, with both men looking to secure a title fight against Alex Pereira in 2025.

A second 205lb bout is set to be contested between veteran Alonzo Menifield and talented Frenchman Oumar Sy.

Polish heavyweight Marcin Tybura also returns to action to face England’s own Mick Parkin, with Queen of the O2 Molly McCann set to fight 6-5 Brazilian Istela Nunes.

Popular Irish strawweight Shauna Bannon is scheduled to compete against Puka Tomar, whilst Christian Leroy Duncan is also set to face Andrey Pulyaev.
