Chael Sonnen believes Sean Strickland earned his opportunity for redemption against Dricus Du Plessis

At UFC 308, Khamzat Chimaev produced a performance so fantastic, that it got fans around the world clamoring to see him fight for the belt.

In the best performance of his career, he ragdolled Robert Whittaker, en route to locking in a horrifying face crank to secure the tap and also snap his opponent’s jaw.

It goes without saying that Chael Sonnen was incredibly impressed by what ‘Borz’ did that night.

However, he still believes that Sean Strickland has done more than enough to earn another opportunity at the 185-pound throne.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the Oregon grappler, said: “Daniel Cormier asked me what I thought about Sean Strickland being next for Dricus Du Plessis. Excuse me? What do I think about that? That’s a great question to ask me six months ago when Seasn Strickland took out Paulo Costa five straight rounds and became the number one contender.

“Do I believe Chimaev should be next? Yes, with the information I have now. But I’m going to get new information that I would like to be able to process the night that Strickland and Du Plessis fight.

“And not for nothing, if Strickland beats him, we’ve got to go into the trilogy match.

“The idea that Sean should somehow be happy, ‘Thank you to the Twittersphere for doing this, thank you to Dana White and Hunter Campbell’. F you x3. He took it. Sean Strickland hasn’t been given a d**n thing since he got here, and the only things he has are the things that he took.”

What Chael Sonnen said to Colby Covington to console him after heart-wrenching loss to Joaquin Buckley

While ‘The American Gangster’ is more than capable of using his gift of the gab to deliver hard-hitting rants, he’s also capable of utilizing his power to help people going through adversity.

At the weekend, he was in Colby Covington’s corner during his loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa.

In the aftermath of the fight, he gave ‘Chaos’ some fantastic words of comfort.
