Colby Covington blames Donald Trump for his heartbreaking loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa

The fight ended in the third round, with a doctor calling a halt to the action due a severe cut on the polarizing mixed martial artist’s eyelid.

Colby Covington says he was too busy campaigning for Donald Trump, when he should’ve been training

On Saturday night, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, Colby Covington sustained the fifth loss of his career, falling short against Joaquin Buckley.

In the early portion of the fight, his opponent sliced him up with massive blows. However, as time rolled on, ‘Chaos’ worked his way back into the contest.

Alas, he was unable to see it out, with the doctor deeming him unable to continue with such a horrendous cut.

Ultimately, Covington has put the loss down to the short-notice nature of the fight, as well as helping Donald Trump ‘get ready’ for the US election.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the 36-year-old, said: “I’m going to come back stronger from this, I’m not going to let this define me. It’s one fight, and I’m more than just a fighter.

“I’m going to let this fuel me. I’m going to get a full training camp. I came in on short notice. This was for the company. This was for the fans.

“This wasn’t a full training camp — I was campaigning for Trump, getting him ready. I wasn’t even in the training room. I came off the couch.

“It was tough for it to go like that, I feel like I was just getting my wind, and I was going to come on strong. But it is what it is. That’s life. I don’t dwell on the past; I focus on the future.”
