There is a potential for history to be made in the main event of UFC 310 as Kai Asakura goes for flyweight gold.
The Japanese star is coming over from RIZIN, and has a rare opportunity to win the world title on his debut, unlike any UFC fighter before him. While there have been other occasions when a fighter has fought for the belt on their debut, they have lost those efforts.
He will have to dethrone the impressive Alexandre Pantoja to do it, however, which is no easy task. The Brazilian has literally wiped out the flyweight division, to the point that they needed to look elsewhere for a challenger.
However, it appears that much of the fanfare surrounding this weekend’s proceedings is to do with the co-main event. Ian Machado Garry has stepped up to challenge Shavkat Rakhmonov in a welterweight title eliminator that will see one man’s undefeated run come to an end after a collective 33 wins.
Tensions seemed to boil over at weigh-ins as the former teammates almost came to blows and had to be dragged apart. And the champion Belal Muhammad will be an interested viewer after being forced out of this fight with a toe injury.
Keep up to date with all the details here on the Bloody Elbow live blog!
Thank you for tuning in
That’s all she wrote from us, we appreciate you checking in with us throughout the evening!
[Link]Alexandre Pantoja chokes out Kai Asakura in the second round
Dominant from start to finish, Alexandre Pantoja gets to the back on the ground and lands the rear naked choke. Asakura refuses to tap and goes out.
[Link]Pantoja rocks Asakura early!
Huge left hand has Asakura in trouble after a big knee and they head to the ground. They’re both still dry, Pantoja can use his black belt here.

Alexandre Pantoja walks out to (a very heavily censored version of) Many Men by 50 Cent!
[Link]Shavkat Rakhmonov hands Ian Machado Garry his first defeat by UD
All three judges, and probably every viewer around the world, has it 48-47, Rounds 1, 2 and 4 for the Kazakh fighter. What a performance from both men.
[Link]We go to the scorecards
The fifth definitely a Garry round, he almost had the submission and dominated off his back. But it has to be 3-2 to Rakhmonov after five.
[Link]Another big round for Rakhmonov
Huge fourth as he lands not one but two elusive takedowns. Can’t do much with them, but he keeps winning rounds. It’s got to be 3-1 now.
[Link]Ian Machado Garry has to change his pants
You read that right, his shorts were ripped during an exchange against the cage and the fourth round takes a minute to start as he changes his shorts.
[Link]Ian Machado Garry wins the third round
Much much better from Garry there, winning the striking exchanges and aiming the leg kicks at Rakhmonov. Marc Goddard finally decides to break up the cage clinching, and while Rakhmonov lands big it’s Garry who is more comfortable in the center of the octagon.
[Link]Shavkat Rakhmonov in control after two
Garry is very much in this fight, and he does have three more rounds, but it’s been all Rakhmonov thus far.
[Link]Shavkat Rakhmonov rocks Ian Machado Garry at the end of the first
After a boring opening stanza all played out against the fence, Rakhmonov wins himself the round with a big shot over the top, just the second significant strike to land.
[Link]Shavkat Rakhmonov makes the walk
Ian Machado Garry looked almost emotional on his way in. No denying the energy from Shavkat. What a fight this is going to be.
[Link]Time for the co-main event
I’m definitely biased because I’m Irish, but I am buzzing for this fight! Ian Machado Garry takes on Shavkat Rakhmonov.
[Link]Ciryl Gane defeats Alexander Volkov by Split Decision
That is going to be a very controversial decision. He immediately leaves the octagon, seemingly surprised that he has won at all. Now he comes back to talk to Joe Rogan.
[Link]Tough showing for Ciryl Gane
Surely Volkov did enough in the third to warrant the victory, the Frenchman got off almost no offence. Rounds 1 and 3 for Volkov as far as I’m concerned, round 2 for Gane.
[Link]Lots of grappling early from the heavyweights
Volkov, as expected, goes for a takedown. Gane gets up and, not quite as expected, lands one of his own.
[Link]Bryce Mitchell sleeps Kron Gracie in round three
Seemingly out of nowhere, Bryce Mitchell lands a monster elbow and that is all she wrote in Las Vegas! Thug Nasty turns a pulled guard into a power slam and then lands two huge elbows. What a finish!
[Link]Bryce Mitchell takes down Kron Gracie
That’s surprising, he seemed to want to test his grappling against Gracie. Fans really hate this, they’re booing loudly!
[Link]Bryce Mitchell vs Kron Gracie
I would never usually suggest this, but Bryce Mitchell, KEEP IT ON THE FEET!
[Link]Doo Ho Choi TKOs Nate Landwehr in round three
The finish comes basically as Landwehr is unable to defend himself in the crucifix position. Doo Ho Choi gets a big win, that may be the end of Nate ‘The Train’ on pay-per-view.
[Link]Nate Landwehr struggling against Doo Ho Choi
Relatively flawless from the Korean thus far, hard to see where Nate ‘The Train’ comes through here.
[Link]Doo Ho Choi drops Nate Landwehr in the first few seconds
After Nate ‘The Train’ runs across the octagon to open the fight and close the distance, he is pieced up on the feet by Choi.

This is a fascinating main card opener. Expect fireworks!
[Link]Did Anthony Smith just retire from the sport?
He answers “probably” to Joe Rogan when asked about if he is hanging off the gloves. He lost his best friend and cornerman two weeks ago.
[Link]Dominick Reyes KOs Anthony Smith
In the second round, Dominick Reyes lands a victory over Anthony Smith!
[Link]Anthony Smith vs Dominick Reyes up now
Two men who have claims to having beat Jon Jones, now both in the twilight of their careers!
[Link]Vicente Luque sends Themba Gorimbo to sleep inside a minute
Wow! What a disaster for The Rock’s favourite fighter. Luque drops him and immediately locks in the guillotine, landing a quickfire win.
Evloev v Sterling scorecard
Not one judge felt Sterling won the third… Interesting.

[Link]Movsar Evloev beats Aljamain Sterling by UD
29-28 across the board, that seems incredibly harsh on Sterling! Fans online are very unhappy!
[Link]Aljamain Sterling and Movsar Evloev delivering a grappling master class here
For me, a big fan of MMA and this type of fight, this is a class showcase. But I can see why they’d rather a Nate Landwehr fight for the main card in terms of casual entertainment.
[Link]Aljamain Sterling vs Movsar Evloev up next
How on earth is this fight on the prelims? One of the fastest rising stars at featherweight against a former bantamweight world champion!
[Link]Bryan Battle beats Randy Brown by SD
Razor close three-rounder, one judge gives it to Randy Brown 29-28 while two give it it Battle!

After Battle missed weight, let’s see how he does in a stern test against Brown
[Link]Eryk Anders TKOs Chris Weidman in R2
Fairly good back and forth for two rounds there, could have gone Weidman’s way earlier before Anders took control.
At the end of the second, Eryk Anders stood up and mm de
Four of the five early prelims end in stoppage
[Link]Chris Weidman vs Eryk Anders next
From two wins over Anderson Silva and UFC title glory to the early prelims, it’s tough to see Weidman in this spot. This fight was due on UFC 309, Eryk Anders was will on fight day.
[Link]Joshua Van beats Cody Durden by UD
29-28 seems far enough to me, 30-26 scorecard is wild, 30-27 also understandable. Van now in the rankings at flyweight!
[Link]We go the distance for the first time tonight
Joshua Van likely lands himself a ranking spot there as he does enough in rounds two and three,
[Link]Joshua Van and Cody Durden going at a mad pace
Durden maybe took the first, but that was a dominant second from Van. We head to the third.

Van is 4-1 in the UFC, he faces a stiff test in the American wrestling expert Durden!
[Link]Michael Chiesa submits Max Griffin in Round 3
We get out of the first round for the first time tonight! Chiesa wins his second in a row with the rear naked choke, Griffin loses his third in five!

[Link]Chase Hooper submits Clay Guida in Round 1
Serious showing from Chase Hooper, he looked a new man on the feet and gets the finish on the ground!
[Link]Clay Guida vs Chase Hooper up next
Wow, fight number 60 for Guida, who is still at it. Hooper won their grappling match, let’s see how the MMA fight goes!
[Link]Kennedy Nzechukwu knocks out Lukasz Brzeski in round one!
We don’t get out of the first as Kennedy Nzechukwu lands a gigantic right hand that stops Brzeski in his tracks. Another stoppage at heavyweight for the Nigerian!

The Fight Pass prelims kick off with Kennedy Nzechukwu vs Łukasz Brzeski in the heavyweight division!
