Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov come to blows during final face-off ahead of record-breaking UFC 310 fight

Ahead of their record-breaking fight this Saturday at UFC 310, Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov came to blows at the ceremonial weigh-ins.

After Belal Muhammad withdrew from his scheduled UFC 310 title defense against Shavkat Rakhmonov, fellow undefeated welterweight contender, Ian Machado Garry threw his name in the hat to step in on short notice.

With that, UFC CEO Dana White announced that the fight would serve as the co-main event, and would determine who fights ‘Remember The Name’ for the title next.

This fight will break the record for the biggest combined undefeated record in the UFC, with Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa previously holding the record from their fight in 2020.

Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov come to blows in final UFC 310 face-off

With the Irishman and ‘The Nomad’ having trained together before, things remained relatively respectful during the beginning of their fight camps, however, things have seemingly gotten more heated the closer to the fight.

Just a few hours after they both weighed in for their 170lb fight, the two took part in the ceremonial weigh-ins, where they had their final face-off.

After an intense fight week where it was revealed that Rakhmonov submitted Machado Garry in training, the two almost came to blows in their last face-off before the fight.

Earlier in the week, the undefeated Kazakh claimed that he had submitted the Irishman in training several times and that Garry knows what happened. Instead of denying Rakhmonov’s claims, Garry admitted that he did, but on Saturday night vowed to ‘put a hole through his head’.

“We’re not gonna hit each other, we’re good, we’re good,” Garry told Dana White as the two began to go head-to-head.

Shortly after, the Kazakh began to start pushing his head onto Garry’s, as the Irishman attempted to push back before ‘The Nomad’ pushed him away.

They were quickly separated before things had the chance to spiral out of control and White sent them off the stage.

Ian Machado Garry claims he’s now in Rakhmonov’s head following intense face-off

Taking after his idol, Conor McGregor, Machado Garry is known for being one of the most confident fighters on the microphone and usually attempts to get into his opponent’s head prior to his fights.

This time around, though, he remained respectful because of his history with Rakhmonov, but following the final face-off, the 27-year-old believes he is now in Rakhmonov’s head.

“So, I’m rattling his brain, Shavkat normally doesn’t get this emotional, he doesn’t get like this. There’s an energy. He brought that good strong energy at the start,” Garry began to explain in a video on his social media.

“But then I sat there and said to everyone, this is what I believe I said on the stage, sometimes adrenaline might say something different so I have to listen back and find out, but I said no, we’re good, let us get closer, we have respect.

“And then he started pushing his head against mine and I’m like, alright, I’m not here to headbut you or to fight right now… Then he started pushing again so I said, ‘Get the f*ck out of my space, you wanna go right now, let’s go’, I fear no man on this planet.

“I’m telling you, I’m in his f*cking noggin… Let’s go baby… Your 0 goes tomorrow, I remain undefeated… I’m going to finish you tomorrow,” Garry finished.
