Dominick Reyes fires shots at Jon Jones as he reminisces over their controversial fight ahead of return at UFC 310

While several years have passed, Dominick Reyes is still adamant that he should’ve gotten the decision against Jon Jones, in what would’ve been the biggest upset in MMA history.

The combat sports stars went to war for light heavyweight gold on February 8, 2020, at UFC 247 inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA.

In a matter of hours, Dominick Reyes will return to the octagon to go head-to-head with Anthony Smith, in what should be an entertaining bout.

The major match-up at UFC 310, inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, could mark the last chance for these two men to propel themselves up the rankings toward a title shot.

While Reyes has never claimed the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization’s title, in his opinion and in the eyes of many, he should’ve on the night he fought Jon Jones.

In a performance the fans will never forget, ‘The Dominator’ produced a magnificent showing, dropping ‘Bones’ en route to cruising to what many believed was going to be his crowning moment.

Alas, when the judges’ scores were read out, they had the champion retaining his belt, leaving the challenger and, indeed, the MMA community furious.

Regardless, Jones continued to win fights, and in the time since, the contender has struggled to get another shot at the strap.

In saying that, the fans can still recall how they felt that evening, with the events that transpired still leaving a bitter taste in their mouths

During a UFC broadcast to promote tonight’s card, Daniel Cormier, asked the Crowd, “Who thought Dominick Reyes beat Jon Jones?”

The question prompted a huge reaction, with the audience answering in the affirmative. Following on from this, the former two-weight world champion, put Reyes on the spot over whether he still believes he ought to have gotten his hand raised.

Without any hesitancy, the 34-year-old took aim at his rival, claiming that deep down, he’s aware that he didn’t win that contest.

Reyes asserted: “Oh, absolutely, I got it done that night. When you’re in the fight with someone, you know what happens, whether it’s sparring or training, you know who got the better of each other in the exchanges. I went out there, and I took it to him.”

Having cemented his place as one of the greatest mixed martial artists who’s ever lived, you’d expect Jones to radiate confidence.

After all, this is a man who’s seen near enough every style imaginable and always finds a way to adapt.

However, during his bout with Reyes, he wasn’t exactly full of optimism, with the legend revealing exactly what was going through his mind during the heat of battle.
