Anthony Smith was left in tears as he talked about potential UFC retirement with Joe Rogan

We may have witnessed Anthony Smith grace the UFC octagon for the final time tonight, with the popular fighter putting up a valiant effort against Dominick Reyes.

In the end, the brawler suffered a second-round TKO loss at the hands of ‘The Dominator’.

While the defeat was tough to take, Smith was going into the bout with a much more devastating situation on his mind — the passing of his coach, Scott Morton.

The trainer has been with the athlete throughout his greatest moments, becoming more like family than just part of his team.

Without his mentor by his side, the 36-year-old is unsure whether he wants to continue competing.

With tears streaming down his face, he told Joe Rogan: “Man, I don’t even give a f**k about the fight. I don’t know how many more times I can do this. This guy was my best friend, and I thought I could push it down, but I couldn’t even control it walking in here, so I don’t know, I’ve gotta do some thinking, but I don’t know how many times I can do this without him.”

When the commentator asked if he was retiring, Smith, replied: “Man, I don’t know. Probably. It’s been a long road, I’m going to think on it, but probably.”

Anthony Smith has had a remarkable mixed martial arts journey

Over the years, Smith has won the hearts of fans for his magnificent displays inside the cage.

With an all-action style, the American has compiled an epic resume, including consecutive victories over Rashad Evans, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Volkan Oezdemir, to earn a shot at Jon Jones for light heavyweight gold.

And while the warrior didn’t win the belt, he bounced back with possibly a career-defining win over Alexander Gustafsson.

Therefore, if this is the end, the Texas brawler has left a truly magnificent legacy.
