‘I knocked myself out’… ONE Championship legend recalls the moment he fumbled a victory by attempting to backflip while his opponent was on his shoulders

Jarred Brooks is one of the very few fighters on the planet who can legitimately claim that their opponent didn’t beat them in the cage, with the American once rendering himself unconscious.

The ONE interim strawweight champion classes the moment as the ‘craziest’ of his entire career.

Jarred Brooks laughs at viral moment he knocked himself out

On Friday evening, Jarred Brooks will settle his rivalry with Reece McLaren once and for all, at ONE Fight Night 26, inside Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Prior to the grudge match, the American has taken a stroll down memory lane, recapping the best and most bizarre memories of everything that’s occurred during his MMA journey.

It goes without saying that he’ll never forget somehow managing to knock himself unconscious, while dominating a UFC fight with Jose Torres.

However, while memorable, it was in ONE Championship, where he truly wrote his name in the MMA history books.

WOW: Randy Couture says how being in the army put him on the path to becoming a UFC icon

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, he said: “I can’t help but s**t on myself for knocking myself out. That’s the craziest experience you can think of. You’re winning a fight unanimously and you’re probably about to finish it and you have the guy on your shoulders in a bridal carry, the guy is my wife at that point.

“I was trying to do a backflip with the guy on my shoulders, and I knocked myself out. I don’t know how crazy you can get.

“Dan Miragliotta’s big a** waking me up like Frodo Baggins. Absolutely crazy.

“Winning the ONE world title was really cool. It was a dream come true. I remember going into the mirror telling myself every day that I was going to be a world champion.

“I would look at myself sometimes and I would cry and be like, ‘Dude, I’m going to be a world champion’. My whole history, if people could see it, they would be way bigger fans of me.

“This is a dream I’ve had since I was five-years-old, my dad putting on Maurice Smith vs Bas Rutten and me wanting to be Tito Ortiz.

“I studied through my whole life for that moment. It was a spectacular time, and I want to make more. That right there, it gets eliminated from my brain. I’m thinking, ‘What’s the next thing’? The wildest moment of my career is probably going to be December 6.”

Jarred Brooks gives hilarious breakdown on how he’d beat ONE heavyweight King, Reug Reug

Throughout his time in ONE, Brooks has proven he’s willing to take on anyone, regardless of who or how big they are.

During a particularly amusing encounter, he even had a playful wrestling match with Reug Reug.

Of course, the pair will never really meet in a fight, but with charisma coursing through his veins, the Indiana brawler chuckled as he revealed exactly how he’d go about beating a man who weighs 140 pounds more than he does.
