Tom Aspinall shares his thoughts on ’50/50′ UFC 310 fight between former opponent and top contender

Tom Aspinall has shared his thoughts on one highly anticipated UFC 310 fight.

A flyweight title clash between Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura will headline Dana White‘s final pay-per-view show of the year, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 7.

However, the interim heavyweight champion is more interested in another fight on the UFC 310 main card.

Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov will throw down in a three-round heavyweight bout with title implications next weekend.

Tom Aspinall can’t call heavyweight clash ahead of UFC 310

Gane and Volkov went the five-round distance when they first fought at UFC Vegas 30 in June 2021.

The French superstar has picked up three more victories since beating Volkov by unanimous decision.

However, he’s fallen short in UFC heavyweight title fights against Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones, who made it look easy as he submitted Gane in just over two minutes at UFC 285 in March 2023.

Gane hasn’t fought since. Meanwhile, Volkov has put together an impressive four-fight win streak.

Besides a submission defeat to Aspinall, ‘Drago’ has been perfect since his defeat to Gane six fights and three years ago.

“It’s a good fight,” Aspinall said when asked for his thoughts on Gane vs Volkov 2 during an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow.

“They fought each other before and people don’t seem to be able to remember the first fight because it was a bit of a stinker. Nothing really happened and Ciryl Gane just edged it.

“I’d say it’s a 50/50 fight. I don’t know. I think Volkov has been in good form lately. Ciryl Gane hasn’t fought for 18 months, so it’s difficult to say where he’s at, but Ciryl Gane is really good as well.

“I don’t know. I’d say it was a 50/50 fight.”

What’s next for Tom Aspinall?

Aspinall is hoping to get the chance to unify the heavyweight division in 2025.

The 31-year-old Englishman sat cageside to watch Jones KO Stipe Miocic and defend his crown at UFC 309.

Now both men are in talks with the UFC bosses about a fight Dana White thinks could be the biggest in company history.

“I’m very confident that it’s going to happen,” Aspinall added about the prospect of fighting Jones next.

“Obviously, a lot of things I’ve got to keep under wraps. I’ve had conversations with the higher-ups in the UFC and they are also very confident it’s going to happen.

“I don’t know from Jon’s side, but I know from my side and the UFC’s side it’s very likely.”
