Floyd Mayweather’s protégé mocked by fans after missing weight by 14lbs: ‘One hell of a thanksgiving dinner’

Curmel Moton is facing backlash for the first time in his career.

The 18-year-old boxing prospect, who ring legend Floyd Mayweather promotes, has made the sport look easy by amassing a 6-0 record since turning professional on the Canelo Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo undercard in September 2023.

An exemplary amateur fighter with a 156–7 record, Curmel Moton was supposed to continue his journey in the paid ranks against Bryan Mercado at ACX1 Studios in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday night.

However, their clash was officially canceled after a ridiculous weight miss on Friday.

Floyd Mayweather’s protégé in wild weight miss

Curmel Moton was supposed to make 133lbs 24 hours before his fight.

Floyd Mayweather’s protege got nowhere near the agreed-upon weight on Friday.

Moton tipped the scales at 147.8lbs, which was 14.8lbs over the contracted weight limit.

The fighter looked unflustered after publicly suffering one of the worst weight misses in boxing history. Moton strutted around the stage before posing for pictures with event organizer Danny Garcia.

Naturally, the fight was called off soon after Moton’s weight miss.

It didn’t take long for fans to begin mocking the teenager on social media.

One said: “Damn bro had one hell of a Thanksgiving dinner.”

Another added: “Jeeeeeez 15 lbs? Was he eating bricks?”

A third person joked: “Bros hardest opponent was cookies.”

Someone else commented: “Homie ate the whole turkey by himself.”

Even Claressa Shields got involved with the online hazing of Moton by tweeting: “lol @curmelmoton1 you said you wasn’t skipping Thanksgiving. 14 pounds overweight is crazy young man”

Floyd Mayweather cashes in after retiring

Floyd Mayweather beat UFC superstar Conor McGregor to improve his boxing record to 50-0 in 2017.

‘Money’ retired from the sport of boxing soon after, but he continues to fight in exhibition bouts.

Logan Paul, Deji, and John Gotti III are just some of the opponents he’s faced since calling it a career.

The 47-year-old grandfather is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues to make millions for low-risk fights against novice boxers he can play with.

Right now, he’s without an opponent. But it seems to be just a matter of time before he fights again.
