Joe Rogan regrets interviewing Daniel Cormier after Jon Jones defeat

At UFC 214, on July 29, 2017, inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, Jon Jones settled his rivalry with Daniel Cormier once and for all.

After ‘DC’ started well, ‘Bones’ timed a perfect left head kick, which sent shockwaves through his opponent’s body and ultimately spelt the beginning of the end.

Following the fight, Joe Rogan made a split-second call to interview a truly heartbroken Cormier, who preceded to release all his emotions on live television.

And that decision is one the commentator still regrets to this day.

On an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster said: “The fight was crazy shocking how violent the ending was because Jon really did hate Daniel.

“I went to go talk to Daniel, and literally as I’m going to talk to him, he’s turning to me, and I have the microphone, I’m like, ‘Why am I interviewing him after he got knocked out? What the f**k is wrong with me’?

“I really care about that guy a great deal, and I just watched him get knocked out, and now his heart is pouring out, and he’s crying when he’s realizing he got knocked out and he lost the fight. It was all awful.

“So, I put up a post. It was haunting me all night. Nobody had said anything, nobody from the UFC got mad at me. It was just me thinking, ‘Why did I do that? Why did I interview him? I shouldn’t have interviewed him.”

Ultimately, while the loss was tough to take for the legend, there’s no shame in losing to someone of Jones’ calibre.

However, there’s one moment that still embarrasses Cormier when he’s asked about it.

When reminiscing about it during a podcast, the two-weight champion says he hopes ‘nobody saw it‘.
