UFC lightweight fan favorite previews potential fight against Dustin Poirier as he talks long-awaited comeback… ‘Blood and fireworks’

In September last year, UFC lightweight fan-favorite Rafael Fiziev suffered a devastating injury to his knee during his main event against Mateusz Gamrot.

Since then the number 11 ranked lightweight hasn’t fought as he has been nursing his injury, however, ‘Ataman’ recently revealed he has been ready to make his comeback but is struggling to find a fight.

Rafael Fiziev was cementing himself as one of the most exciting fighters in the division prior to his injury and a fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 286 showcased that he can hold his own against the top echelon of the division.

Rafael Fiziev previews a potential fight against Dustin Poirier as he provides an update

Now ready to return to the Octagon, Fiziev is hoping he can tempt Dustin Poirier into a fight in what could be ‘The Diamond’s’ last fight.

False rumors surfaced online recently that a fight between Fiziev and Poirier was being worked on, however, the former UFC interim lightweight champion came out and squashed the rumors.

Despite that, in a recent interview with Submission Radio, the explosive striker admitted that he would love to fight Poirier and provided an update on his UFC return.

“I’ve agreed to all dates, it doesn’t matter what date but yeah, I’m just waiting for the UFC,” Fiziev began to explain.

“I don’t know, many people are talking about Dustin, I’ve seen it on the internet. It’s good if I fight Dustin, of course, he is a legend and former champion, for me, it’s a miracle if I fight with Dustin but I’m not sure about that.

“For sure it doesn’t look like my fight against Gaethje. For sure I’ve changed some things with my gameplan and my mental… It doesn’t matter who fights against Dustin, it’s always a good fight.

“For sure it’s like fireworks and blood and maybe even a knockout,” Fizieiv continued.

Rafael Fiziev asked for a rematch against Mateusz Gamrot but Gamrot rejected

The 31-year-old has revealed that following his unfortunate loss against Mateusz Gamrot, he asked for a rematch against ‘Gamer’ but the Pole turned down the offer.

Following his win over Fiziev, Gamrot went on to pick up a win against Rafael dos Anjos and then came up short against Dan Hooker at UFC 305.

“Honestly, after my last loss against Gamrot after I got surgery, I talked to my manager and I told him I wanted a rematch because I still want to feel that wrestling pressure and grappling pressure, I want to fight with an elite grappler like him. If this fight happens against Gamrot, that would be perfect,” Fiziev added.
