A former Jon Jones opponent has reminded the heavyweight champion that he ought to treat Tom Aspinall with a bit more respect.

This UFC legend has made an interesting point about why ‘Bones’ owes the interim title-holder an opportunity at the undisputed belt.

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is undeniably an MMA legend, with a resume filled with fantastic fighters.

However, when he fought Jon Jones, he failed to overcome the dynamic striking and vicious submission game of his opponent.

Regardless, while Jones was the light heavyweight champion at the time, Rampage believes he was the bigger name, and it was he who was providing the younger man with an opportunity to build his brand.

With that said, the former fighter is adamant that his old rival owes Tom Aspinall the same courtesy.

During an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, the 46-year-old said: “When I fought Jon Jones, I remember people saying, ‘Who are you fighting next?’ I was like, ‘Jon Jones,’ and it was like, ‘Who is that?’… I heard the interview, and he said he didn’t wanna give Aspinall a fight because people didn’t really know who he was.

“He felt like Aspinall will make a name off his back. I was like, ‘Jon Jones, when I fought you, nobody really knew who you were. You weren’t a superstar yet’.”
