Kimbo Slice choked out Ray Mercer

Kimbo Slice rose to prominence in the noughties, developing a massive following through videos of his epic street fights.

With fans around the world falling in love with his personality, Kevin Ferguson, as he was really called, took things up a notch, embarking on a career in MMA.

After two years of training, the gifted brawler agreed a deal to face a man who’d previously claimed an Olympic gold medal and a heavyweight world title.

Ray Mercer was a tremendous boxer, who’d shared the ring with Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield, making him, on paper, a tough match-up for Slice.

However, at 46 years of age, by the time he set foot in the cage with the loveable fighting machine, he wasn’t the fighter he used to be.

Within ten seconds of the opening bell, a crazed Slice sprinted across the cage and successfully executed a takedown.

Showcasing his fighting heart, Mercer got back to his feet. But unfortunately his rival was just too much.

The younger man started landing knees, before securing another takedown, followed by locking in a guillotine that forced his veteran opponent to submit.

Kimbo Slice became a respected mixed martial artist

While many wrote him off as just a mere street fighter, Slice eventually made a believer out of the MMA community.

After a stint on The Ultimate Fighter, the scrapper ended up competing in Bellator.

During his time in the promotion, he excelled to new heights, most notably picking up a victory over Ken Shamrock.
