‘Absolute buffoon’… UFC 309 star lets rip at judge for handing in ‘craziest’ scorecard of all time

Oban Elliott was furious following his big win at UFC 309.

‘The Welsh Gangster’ took his fight out of the judges’ hands as he brutally knocked out Bassill Hafez in the third round of their welterweight fight at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

Elliott appeared to be cruising to a points win before finishing his UFC 309 opponent, but that wasn’t the case as one judge had Hafez two rounds up heading into the final frame.

The 26-year-old let rip at dissenting judge Derek Cleary in an angry social media post after improving his MMA record to 12-2.

Oban Elliott slams dodgy scorecard

On Sunday, Oban Elliott took to X – formerly known as Twitter to vent.

The 3-0 UFC prospect slammed Cleary for his ‘crazy’ scorecard before claiming that the official wouldn’t meet the requirements to work his old job at Britain’s favorite chicken spot.

He tweeted: “This is some of the craziest bulls*** I’ve ever seen.

“I can’t believe this nearly happened to me. Derek Cleary you don’t even qualify for my old job at Nando’s you absolute buffoon.”

The other two judges agreed that Elliott had won the first round and lost the second, so they were given a pass as he laid into the man who also gave Stipe Miocic a round in his one-sided main event loss to Jon Jones.

Oban Elliott owned his post-fight moment

Elliott is a self-confessed Chael Sonnen superfan, who would’ve made his hero proud when he hopped on the mic and gave an epic post-fight interview to Joe Rogan.

“This is home for me, brother,” he said.

“Pay-per-view. Madison Square Garden. The world’s most famous arena just got to see the world’s most dangerous gangster put the man on his back. And we are just getting started, boys and girls.”

Elliott has found a lot of success inside the Octagon since earning a contract on DWCS. Back-to-back decision wins over Preston Parsons and Val Woodburn proceeded his UFC 309 appearance.

Not only did Elliott walk away from his biggest fight to date with a first UFC KO, but he also got a $50,000 bonus after impressing Dana White with his performance.

It appears that the sky is the limit for this young 170lb prospect from Wales.
