Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has detailed his crazy experience before his fight against Nate Diaz in 2019.
During his long tenure in the UFC, Anthony Pettis was involved in some of the best fights in the company’s history and he went through his fair share of ups and downs.
Now enjoying his retirement from MMA, ‘Showtime’ Pettis has provided some details on one of his most disappointing performances under the UFC banner.
Anthony Pettis details cutting his hand moments before fight against Nate Diaz
In 2019, Pettis fought against Nate Diaz in the UFC 241 co-main event, going on to lose a unanimous decision in a disappointing performance.

However, since then, the former lightweight champion has come out and provided some details on an incident that happened in the locker room, just moments before his fight.
“I walked into the locker room, USADA comes in, ‘You’ve got to p*ss’, I’m like, ok I’m ready to go, whatever. I open the glass, the little jar to p*ss, and gash my hand. I need stitches right before the fight. I’m bleeding like crazy and then I had to get warmed up and taped up so I couldn’t warm up for that fight,” Pettis said in an interview with Demetrious Johnson.
“They glued it shut and Dana (White) came in the back and was like, ‘Do you wanna fight or not?’ and I remember turning to my wife and I was like, ‘I ain’t no b*tch’ like f*ck it I’m gonna fight. They used this glue with a little light to make it like flash and it gets hot really fast so I get my hand glued up.
“While my coach is taping me it breaks again and I’m bloody as f*ck again. I couldn’t do jiu-jitsu, I couldn’t warm up, I couldn’t punch nothing for that fight. I go out there and sh*t the bed, sh*ttiest performance ever,” Pettis continued.
Anthony Pettis sued USADA for the pre-fight saga
‘Showtime’ went on to admit that he sued USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for the pre-fight saga and eventually got paid out.
“I sued USADA for that and they paid me out, they were wrong, man. There was a shard of glass on top of the cap that shouldn’t have been there and you remember back then, you had to open the bottles so I opened it up and I got slashed,” Pettis admitted.
The UFC is no longer in partnership with USADA and now runs its own in-house drug testing through Drug Free Sport International, the same company that facilitates testing for the NBA, NFL, and more.
