‘Wounded warrior’ Pedro Munhoz breaks his silence following third-straight loss at UFC Edmonton

Pedro Munhoz issues his first public comments since a loss to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC Edmonton.

Munhoz lost to the surging Zahabi by unanimous decision at UFC Edmonton on Saturday. He’s now winless over six of his last seven fights, including recent defeats to Marlon Vera and Kyler Phillips.

The once-promising Munhoz’s UFC roster spot could potentially be on the line after his latest setback in the Octagon. Traditionally, the UFC doesn’t hold on to aging veterans who are on lofty losing skids.

Despite this uncertainty, Munhoz is looking ahead and not backward after a back-and-forth battle with Zahabi.

Pedro Munhoz speaks after latest setback at UFC Edmonton

In a recent Instagram post, Munhoz addressed his fans and supporters after falling short at UFC Edmonton.

“Your will to win must always be greater than your fear of losing. Every win, every defeat, and the scars are a lesson learned,” Munhoz said.

“A wounded warrior is not the same as a defeated warrior. The only certainty we have is the will to continue in pursuit of victory and that in the end all constant hard work will be worth the journey.”

Earlier in his UFC tenure, the 38-year-old Munhoz defeated the likes of Cody Garbrandt, Rob Font, and Jimmie Rivera. He hasn’t won since a unanimous decision victory against Chris Gutierrez in April 2023.

Pedro Munhoz turns the page on UFC Edmonton defeat

A no-contest against Sean O’Malley due to an accidental eye poke at UFC 276 stalled Munhoz’s standing in the bantamweight division. Meanwhile, Zahabi has won five consecutive fights and is knocking on the door of the bantamweight Top 15.

Munhoz made his UFC debut against Raphael Assuncao at UFC 170. A flurry of seven wins in eight fights, including a brutal knockout of Garbrandt at UFC 235, put him on the cusp of a bantamweight title shot.

Munhoz’s best days are likely behind him, but he remains a difficult puzzle to solve for most bantamweights. Time will tell if the UFC will give him another shot to get back on track in his fighting career.
