Conor McGregor ends retirement talk with new training footage ahead of UFC comeback in 2025

Conor McGregor is still training for his UFC comeback fight.

The former dual-weight champion hasn’t fought since snapping his leg during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

‘Notorious’ has been calling for a comeback date all year. Unfortunately, he was forced to withdraw from a fight with Michael Chandler, which was supposed to headline UFC 303 in June.

Dana White says his biggest star will return in 2025, but the man himself recently suggested that he’s going to retire from MMA.

Conor McGregor completes retirement U-turn

Earlier this week, Conor McGregor sent shockwaves through the MMA community when he seemingly walked away from the sport in a brief social media statement.

The 36-year-old received a tweet from a fan advising him against returning after watching Khamzat Chimaev crush Robert Whitaker’s face and mangle his teeth with a vicious submission at UFC 308 on Saturday.

Surprisingly, the fan got a reply that suggested that they’d convinced McGregor to retire as he wrote: “Ya know what, you’re right, goodbye.”

McGregor added more fuel to the fire by telling WWE super Cody Rhodes ‘see you soon’ in another social media post that hinted he’s done with MMA and eyeing up a new sport.

However, his latest Instagram activity shows he’s still planning to fight soon.

McGregor shared several videos to his story that showed him training in BJJ.

The MMA legend rolled with a sparring partner while wearing UFC shorts before taking off his T-shirt and posing in front of a mirror for a video he captioned ‘immovable’, which could be viewed as confirmation he won’t be leaving his first sport.

Who will Conor McGregor face in his comeback fight?

Michael Chandler has agreed to fight Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 on November 16 and left McGregor looking for a new opponent for his comeback.

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, McGregor claimed he is fighting Dan Hooker on February 1 in Saudi Arabia, but even though he likes the matchup, Dana White has since confirmed that it has not been discussed.

Hooker is also keen on the fight. Unfortunately, he can’t make that specific date due to a major family event.

“I’m good to go in January or March,” Hooker told Helen Yee Sports. “The missus is due [for a baby in] February, so no can go. I’ve got a little girl on the way.

“You’d even turn down a big fight with McGregor for [the birth of your child]. You’re not missing that. No panties are coming off in February.”

MMA fans continue to impatiently wait for McGregor’s new comeback date.
