Chael Sonnen fires back at MMA fans claiming Jon Jones is ‘shying away’ from Tom Aspinall by fighting Stipe Miocic at UFC 309

Chael Sonnen completely disagrees with the sentiment that Jon Jones is ducking Tom Aspinall by facing Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

‘Bones’ is set to put his heavyweight championship on the line on November 16, inside Madison Square Garden, New York, USA.

Chael Sonnen thinks Jon Jones will defend his title against Tom Aspinall

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic, is undeniably a match-up between two of the greatest fighters to have ever graced the sport of MMA.

In one corner, stands a combat sports genius, renowned for his remarkable creativity, and in the other, a man famed for his fearsome power and incredible reign over the heavyweight division.

But in spite of this, the fans aren’t happy. And that’s because a wrecking machine in the form of Tom Aspinall has made an impact that simply can’t be ignored.

With lightning hands and a sublime Brazilian jiu-jitsu game, the Englishman has destroyed every fighter he’s set foot in the octagon with, en route to picking up the UFC interim title.

However, despite Aspinall’s accomplishments, Jones has shown very little interest in sharing the octagon with him.

This has resulted in some members of the MMA community accusing the legend of avoiding his rival.

However, Chael Sonnen completely disagrees.

He told ESPN: “My interpretation is that Jon isn’t planning to retire or shying away from fighting Aspinall.

“He’s laser-focused on Stipe. The biggest risk for Jones is if he starts splitting his attention. If he tries to fight two opponents at once, that’s when things could get tricky. Any notion that he’s dismissing Aspinall is a misinterpretation.”

Chael Sonnen gives an insight into sparring Georges St-Pierre

While ‘The American Gangster’ now spends his time talking about icons like Jones, at the peak of his powers, he was fighting them.

Sonnen has shared the cage and the mats with a plethora of MMA superstars, including Anderson Silva and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

However, one man still stands out from the pack.

The Oregon native recently opened up about sparring Georges St-Pierre, giving a detailed breakdown of what happened and why the Canadian was so special.
