Conor McGregor’s big gamble fell short after Robert Whittaker lost at UFC 308.
McGregor wasn’t happy with Robert Whittaker’s quick defeat to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 308 which cost him a big potential payout.
McGregor placed a $500k bet on the top two fights at UFC 308. His two-pick parlay was Whittaker defeating Chimaev by knockout late, and Max Holloway finishing Ilia Topuria by knockout early in the main event.
If McGregor got both picks right, he would’ve earned a $17 million payout. But, Whittaker tapped to a Chimaev face-crank submission in the first round, shattering McGregor’s parlay.

Conor McGregor explodes after losing potential $17 million payout
It didn’t take long for McGregor to react to Whittaker’s loss. He posted a series of tweets immediately after Chimaev secured the victory.
“A mill in a week! Damn!” McGregor tweeted.
“The rich get richer yup my auntie trust.
“Scutter a*** it’s still shartin time. Abysmal.”
McGregor also bet on last weekend’s PFL headliner between former UFC champ Francis Ngannou and Renan Ferreira. He bet on Ferreira knocking out the returning Ngannou, but Ngannou finished Ferreira with ground-and-pound in the first round.

Khamzat Chimaev’s UFC 308 win demolishes Conor McGregor’s big bet
Chimaev, a previous social media target of McGregor, remains undefeated in his MMA career with the UFC 308 victory. It was his second-straight middleweight win after making the full-time move up from the welterweight division.
Whittaker’s loss snaps a two-fight winning streak and stalls his pursuit of the UFC middleweight title. Before UFC 308, he defeated Ikram Aliskerov and former UFC title challenger Paulo Costa earlier this year.
McGregor was supposed to make his long-awaited UFC return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303. But, he withdrew just weeks before the event due to a toe injury, and his return timeline remains uncertain.
Chimaev could potentially earn the next UFC middleweight title shot after his UFC 308 performance. UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis is expected to return early in 2025, potentially against either Sean Strickland or Chimaev.
McGregor isn’t afraid to take big chances in and out of the cage. But, his latest big bet fell way short, as he accumulated a $1 million loss in a week.
