Ian Machado Garry provides an update on a targeted fight against Colby Covington… ‘He’s avoiding me like the plague’

Ian Machado Garry has been looking to stay active and continue his incredible momentum following a win over Michael ‘Venom’ Page this past June.

Now ranked seventh in the welterweight division, Ian Machado Garry is hopeful of a big name in his next outing to get him ever closer to the elusive title shot.

Although his performance against Michael ‘Venom’ Page at UFC 303 wasn’t one of his finest, he was still able to pick up the win and maintain his undefeated record.

Ian Machado Garry provides an update on fight against Colby Covington

For over a year now, ‘The Future’ has been calling for a big fight against former interim champion of the division, Colby Covington.

The two have been locked into an online feud for a while now with ‘Chaos’ distastefully bringing the Irishman’s family into the feud which has only increased Garry’s desire to fight him.

Covington hasn’t fought since his embarrassing title fight performance against Leon Edwards back at UFC 296 last December. If the 36-year-old is hopeful of securing a fourth title shot, he will need to pick up a win against a ranked opponent.

The promotion was reportedly targeting a main event fight between Garry and Covington to take place in Tampa, Florida, however, Garry has provided an update on that possibility.

“What’s up everyone, so I’m coming on to let everyone know, keep everybody in the loop, and keep everyone updated because it matters. A month ago I was offered a fight with Colby Covington. It took me all of 20 seconds to respond to the email saying ‘Yes, I’m in’.

“A month later we’ve still got no response from Colby. He’s avoiding me like the plague and there’s one reason and one reason only this fight isn’t happening, and his name is Colby Covington,” Garry explained in a video on his Instagram.

Dana White provides an update on UFC Tampa

Of course, Flordia has recently been hit by two devastating hurricanes, putting the targeted event on December 14 in jeopardy.

This past Tuesday following Dana White’s Contender Series, UFC boss Dana White provided an update on the status of the event.

“I think so (that we still plan to hold an event there on December 14) because I think that, I don’t know for me to speak like this but I’ve heard from people it wasn’t as bad as they thought it was gonna be, it was still bad, but not as bad as they thought it was gonna be so we’ll see how quickly things get cleaned up there but yeah we want to go back to Tampa,” White stated.

Someone else Garry has a history with is former champion, Edwards, after the Irishman was kicked out of ‘Rocky’s’ gym in Birmingham.

If Covington is still refusing to fight down the rankings, fans have expressed interest in seeing Garry and Edwards settle their beef in a possible fight in Europe.
