‘It’s like getting in two car crashes in one day’… Dan Hooker responds to Dustin Poirier’s 4-man BMF tournament proposal

Former BMF title challenger Dustin Poirier recently proposed the idea of a four-man, one-night tournament for the BMF title, and the idea seems to be picking up some traction.

After coming up short in his BMF title fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 last year, Dustin Poirier would like another chance to claim the unique title.

‘The Diamond’ proposed the idea of a four-man tournament including himself, Gaethje, Dan Hooker, and Max Holloway and earlier this week UFC CEO, Dana White, seemed keen on the idea when asked about it.

White wasn’t the only one to comment on the proposal as former BMF title challenger, Nate Diaz approved of the idea but asked to remove ‘two nerds’ from the original bracket, stating that Poirier and Gaethje ‘aren’t eligible’.

It’s fair to say that all four of the proposed fighters have the resumes and fight styles to be considered BMFs, and Hooker has responded to the idea of the tournament.

“Nah, I think like, yeah it’s a great idea, in one night? Dustin said one night? That’s like getting into two car crashes in the same day, like, you don’t really wanna do that,” Hooker told The Mac Life.

“I would do it if we’re having a crazy off, I’m probably gonna win that. I’d do it, like, don’t get me wrong, don’t get in a crazy-off with me, I will out crazy anyone,” the New Zealander continued.

The Kiwi previously called for a guaranteed ‘car crash’ fight against ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje, with the former interim champion set to return at the beginning of next year.

Of course, Hooker and Poirier have already met in the Octagon in 2020, putting on one of the greatest fights of all time with a rematch being very welcomed by fans.

Dan Hooker is in Spain cornering an MMA media member for a BKFC fight

Bizarrely, Hooker will be on the other side of the ropes this coming Saturday when he corners MMA media member, Oscar Willis for his BKFC fight against fellow media member, Ben ‘The Bane’ Davis.

As well as the opportunity to corner his friend, Willis, Hooker admitted that he is hopeful of bumping into ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor at the event as he wants to talk to him and potentially set up a UFC fight.

BKFC Spain will mark McGregor’s first event as a main promoter since becoming a part-owner of the promotion earlier this year.

Now ranked fifth in the 155lb division, Hooker has set himself up for a huge next outing with a win possibly putting him in a position to challenge for the title.
