‘Old Man Volk’ returns in hilarious new comedy sketch in which he gets roasted over Spanish Paella with ‘knockout punch’

Everyone’s favorite OAP Australian has finally returned to our screens, with former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski featuring in a ‘tasty’ new comedy sketch.

‘Old Man Volk’ first made an appearance back in February in the lead-up to his shock knockout loss to Spanish-Georgian sensation Ilia Topuria, with that brutal defeat the unfortunate punchline in his latest viral skit.

Alexander ‘Old Man’ Volkanovski returns in hilarious new comedy sketch

When Alexander Volkanovski walked out onto the UFC 298 press conference stage in an ‘old man’ costume that included a walking cane, flat cap, glasses and a sweater; MMA fans around the world fell in love with The Great’s new persona.

That was until he suffered a particularly brutal one-punch knockout loss in the second round of his featherweight title clash against ‘El Matador’ just a few days later.

Luckily, Volkanovski has revived the ‘old man’ character over the past few months in collaboration with Australian betting group SportsBet; and it has to be said that this latest sketch is one of the best.

‘Old man Volk’ opens up by reading a newspaper claiming he’s past his best-before date, before revealing that he’s put aside fighting MMA for his ‘side hustle’ selling homemade pasta sauces.

When one hungry customer asks if he can pay by contactless card payment, ‘The Great’ vehemently argues back: “Tap and go, tap?! You know I never tap!”

Then we see the ‘villain’ of the sketch make her appearance, Beverly, who is selling Spanish Paella on the stall next to Volk… And you can already see where this is going.

Bev takes aim at poor Volk by promoting her Spanish Paella as having a ‘knockout punch to it’, a hurtful reminder of what happened the last time we saw the Australian in the octagon – You can watch the full sketch below.

Alexander Volkanovski doubles down on his next fight being for UFC gold

With Ilia Topuria set to defend the featherweight title against Max Holloway later this month in the main event of UFC 308, Alexander Volkanovski has repeatedly stated that he’s going to sit out and wait to fight the winner.

Yet that’s not to say that there hasn’t been a series of top featherweights trying to tempt Volkanovski into taking a ‘tune-up’ fight first – including Brazilian superstar Diego Lopes.

After his victory over Brian Ortega last month, Lopes would call for a shot against the Australian warrior, who responded by stating that he’d only face the Brazilian if something happened to either Holloway or Topuria.

“We’ve already talked to the UFC, obviously I’m fighting for the title (next), that’s what it was always going to be,” Volkanovski told Submission Radio in late September.

“If it was going to be [Lopes] next, something would have to happen to one of the guys from the fight, whether they get injured or move divisions or whatnot, and there was an interim title or something like that.

“Obviously I’m not scared of nobody but I’m fighting for the title and that’s that.”

Holloway vs Topuria is set to go down on October 26, live from Abu Dhabi.
