‘He poses a lot of problems for Jon Jones’… Conor McGregor explains why he believes Alex Pereira can beat the UFC heavyweight champion

Conor McGregor is convinced that Alex Pereira would present a lot of problems to Jon Jones, if the pair were to ever clash inside the octagon.

The UFC legends are currently ranked as the number two and three pound-for-pound fighters in the world, with ‘Poatan’ just edging out the American.

Conor McGregor says Alex Pereira is a ‘dangerous’ match-up for Jon Jones

On Saturday night at UFC 307, inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, Alex Pereira produced a destructive performance to retain his 205-pound title.

The Brazilian utilized his formidable striking to dismantle Khalil Rountree, en route to securing a fourth-round TKO.

His brutal showing was so impressive that it caught the attention of Conor McGregor, who believes that the former Glory world champion could pose a real threat to Jon Jones.

Not only does he want to see the fan-favorite move up to heavyweight to make history by becoming the first UFC fighter to win titles in three weight categories, but also because he believes his style could be Jones’ kryptonite.

In an interview with The Schmo, the Irishman said: “Someone has to go for the three belts, it’s myself or himself.

“I think he poses a lot of problems for Jon [Jones] also. That’s a dangerous style for Jon. But it’s a decent one for him, because he’s not so big, Jon is new to the heavyweight division.

“Jon, he had a nice one against Ciryl Gane, but he’s still untested at heavyweight. And I’m sure in the back of his mind, he has that thought that some of the guys are really big, and Alex is a nice one. I’d be very excited to see that bout take place, for sure.”

Michael Bisping claims Alex Pereira is the UFC pound-for-pound number one

Pereira’s demolition job over Rountree impressed Michael Bisping just as much as it did McGregor.

The former middleweight world champion was utterly blown away by what the striking icon did inside the cage.

Coming from a kickboxing background himself, Bisping can’t help but enjoy watching the displays Pereira produces inside the cage.

Therefore, at the risk of annoying Dana White, ‘The Count’ gave a compelling argument for why the two-weight world champion is the pound-for-pound number one.
