While some MMA fans believe it should be Magomed Ankalaev fighting Alex Pereira for UFC gold this weekend, a former heavyweight contender claims that Khalil Rountree deserves his shot at the throne.
‘Poatan’ and ‘The War Horse’ will go head-to-head for 205-pound supremacy on Saturday night at UFC 307 inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Brendan Schaub says Khalil Rountree deserves a fight with Alex Pereira more than Magomed Ankalaev
Blessed with thunderous Muay Thai strikes, Khalil Rountree has proven himself as one of the best light heavyweights on the planet, knocking out a plethora of top-level fighters to earn his shot at the strap.
However, some believe his achievements pale in comparison to that of Magomed Ankalaev, and that it should be the Russian taking on Alex Pereira on October 5.
The Dagestani last fought for the belt against Jan Blachowicz back in October 2023, with the judges unable to split them, leaving the MMA star desperate for another roll of the dice.
But he’s yet to receive that second shot, much to the dismay of his fans.

However, despite the protests of the MMA community, Brendan Schaub is convinced that Rountree is the correct opponent for Pereira, recently taking to his Thiccc Boy YouTube channel, to express his opinion.
The former professional athlete said: “He’s won five in a row. Ankalaev, he hasn’t won five in a row. He had a title shot. How did it go for him? F***ing boring—went to a draw.
“And they have a common opponent with Johnny Walker. How did that go for Ankalaev? Is that the most exciting fight you’ve ever seen? Did you see what Rountree did to Walker? What are you complaining about?”
Video resurfaces of Anderson Silva picking Khalil Rountree to be the ‘next champion’ back in 2015
It seems Schaub isn’t the only one who believes in Rountree, with a video of the great Anderson Silva picking the Los Angeles striker to be the ‘next champion’ back in 2015.
‘The Spider’ has sparred countless rounds with the American, leading him to the conclusion that the title contender is very much the real deal.
The incredible clip highlights just how much faith Silva has in Rountree’s abilities.
