Khalil Rountree teases new unprecedented technique ahead of UFC 307

Back in July of this year, veteran Khalil Rountree Jr appeared on an episode of the Joe Rogan Podcast, with ‘The War Horse’ teasing that he and his team have come up with a revolutionary new way to get a fight to the ground.

“After we’re done with this, I’m going to show you this sick sweep thing that I’m working on,” Rountree told an instantly intrigued Rogan, suggesting that the new technique is so out-of-this-world that it’s never before been seen in MMA.

“It’s like it’s really cool, I’m going to show it to you and then when you see me do it in a fight you’ll be like holy s***…. It’s unseen, unheard of and it’s a mixture of like what I’ve learned, like some Muay Thai concepts and like mixed with what I’ve been learning in my Jiu-Jitsu.”

Since that interview, the global MMA community has been busy speculating on exactly what this secretive new technique could involve; with some even suggesting that Rountree was exaggerating its potential to be a game-changer.

Well, in a new interview with Megan Olivi via ESPN MMA, Rountree would not only double down on the new technique being a legitimate weapon in his arsenal but that fans ‘could’ be about to see it in action this weekend at UFC 307.

“I definitely do have something that has never been seen before, ever. When I was talking to Joe and I told him ‘Yeah, I have plans to do this hopefully in my next fight’, at that time I didn’t know that I would be fighting Alex [Pereira].

“There are guys in the division that I can see it working on 100%, there could be a possibility of this happening, this move, this technique happening – it’s possible… Am I hunting for it? No, [but] if it presents itself then everyone will know ‘Oh s***, that’s it, that’s what he was talking about’.”

Whether this seemingly revolutionary new technique finds a home in Utah remains to be seen, although Rountree did also note that he has an airtight gameplan ready for whatever Poatan throws his way.

“I 100% have a gameplan, for me to go into this, into this fight and not have a gameplan would not be smart at all so I do have a gameplan, I do have things that I am working on specifically in the hopes that it provides the number one outcome, which is me winning and getting the belt.”

Khalil Rountree Jr has the chance to shock the world this Saturday evening in the main event of UFC 307; fingers crossed that the fight lasts long enough to see ‘The War Horse’ employ this new move.
