While the MMA community is fearful that Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall might never come to fruition, Chael Sonnen has chimed in to give a fresh sense of optimism.

Chael Sonnen is adamant Jon Jones will fight Tom Aspinall

Since his debut in the UFC, Tom Aspinall has demolished every opponent brave enough to set foot in the octagon with him.

With lightning hands, and frightening precision, the British phenom has established his place as the most fearsome competitor in the division, and picked up an interim title for his efforts.

However, while he’s undeniably done everything possible to earn a fight with Jon Jones, the American has gone in a different direction, agreeing to face Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

While the Cleveland fighter has undoubtedly carved his legacy in stone, most believe Aspinall would make for a much more worthy challenger for ‘Bones’.

Unfortunately, Jones has seemed reluctant even to discuss the Englishman, leaving many concerned that he’ll never agree to face the interim champion.

However, Chael Sonnen is convinced that the fight will indeed take place.

In a video, uploaded to his YouTube channel, he said: “I don’t believe this is going to be Jon’s last fight. I don’t believe there’s a scenario that Jon Jones does not fight Tom Aspinall. I believe, if Jon beats Stipe, he draws right into Tom Aspinall and doesn’t flinch.

“But I know for sure, if Jon loses to Stipe, Jon is going to draw right into Tom Aspinall, and he’s not even going to flinch. In fact, it’s going to be Jon’s idea. I think there’s multiple reasons for that.

“But how you’re remembered in something you contributed so much to, you would like to be remembered. That’s reasonable. That’s human nature.

“And Jon, while he is super, maybe he is super at a skill compared to other human beings, he is still a human being.

“Mark my words, you will see Jon in the octagon with Tom Aspinall.”
