Renato Moicano explains why he once considered ‘sucker-punching’ Chael Sonnen ahead of his huge UFC Paris main event

This coming weekend at UFC Paris, Renato Moicano will compete in his second UFC main event as he takes on Benoit Saint-Denis in his backyard at the Accor Arena, in a big fight in the lightweight division.

After an extremely impressive run at lightweight, Benoit Saint-Denis was afforded a number one contender fight against Dustin Poirier back at UFC 299 in March.

The Frenchman came up short against ‘The Diamond’ and will look to once again regain some momentum this coming weekend in his first UFC main event against Renato Moicano.

Renato Moicano thought about sucker-punching Chael Sonnen

‘Money’ Moicano has always been a popular fighter amongst the fans, however, his popularity has increased tenfold over the past few years, and now on a tear at lightweight, he is knocking on the door of the top 10 of the division.

This will mark the Brazilian’s first main event since his fight against ‘The Korean Zombie’ in 2019 and he has the chance to go on his first four-fight win streak since joining the promotion in 2014.

Ahead of the huge fight at 155lbs, the outspoken Moicano has explained his hatred for another outspoken fighter, Chael Sonnen.

Since his retirement, Sonnen has continued to stay relevant in the MMA world as an analyst, but ‘Money’ Moicano isn’t a big fan of him for one particular reason.

“I used to hate Chael Sonnen, Chael Sonnen, Colby Covington all these guys that keep talking sh*t about Brazil, I used to hate,” Moicano began to explain in an interview with Home of Fight.

“I remember I was not even in the UFC and I was thinking about buying a (ticket to the fights) just to sucker punch Chael Sonnen when he was doing The Ultimate Fighter, because he was talking sh*t about Brazil all the time and I was very offended by that,” Moicano admitted.

Renato Moicano highlights Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett as a potential next opponent

Although Moicano is fully focused on ‘The God of War’ this coming weekend, the 35-year-old has previously flirted with the idea of fighting emerging UFC star, Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett.

Regardless of the result of Moicano’s fight against Saint-Denis, Pimblett could make sense for Moicano next as he is now finally ranked in the top 15 of the lightweight division.

“I don’t know, maybe Paddy Pimblett, maybe (Dan) Hooker, whoever, you know? I think these are good names but I have to focus on Benoit Saint-Denis so I have to focus on him then I will call someone out,” Moicano added.

The recently impressive Dan Hooker is angling for a fight against the returning Justin Gaethje, with ‘The Highlight’ expressing a mutual interest in that fight.
