Dricus Du Plessis says UFC fans are wrong about his style

Blessed with heavy hands and an unrelenting will to win, Dricus Du Plessis has scaled the MMA mountain, winning the 185-pound UFC championship belt.

While perhaps not as pretty on the eye as some of the title holders who’ve come before him, ‘Stillknocks’ knows how to get the job done when the cage door closes.

Over the years, he’s seen people express their opinions on his technique, with some slating it and others giving over-the-top analytical breakdowns.

He’s now provided a full analysis of exactly what he does inside the cage and why it works for him.

In an interview with Shak MMA, he said: “I think the biggest misconception, and it is changing, it should be, because, in the beginning, people were like, ‘This guy is just falling around, throwing shots, sloppy’. And now, people are going, ‘Look how he’s stepping in with his foot’.

“People are breaking down my style, and saying how smart it is. And a lot of those things, I go, ‘What are you talking about’? I don’t even think about that.

“People are going, ‘Look at his plan, he steps inside with his foot and then outside’. And I go, ‘What? No’. They try to scientifically break this down and going how technical it is; it’s not at all, it’s a fight.”

“It was awkward and weird, which it is because it’s a new style, like jiu-jitsu was when it came into the UFC.

“When Lyoto Machida came in when he did his stance and did his crane kick, that was weird. Everything was weird because it was new.

“We’ve always looked at fighting and gone, ‘This guy is good, but if he had this stance, he would’ve been better’. So, my style doesn’t just come from me being weird and awkward and having no balance. It’s something we’ve over the years developed. I think it’s a superior style, that’s why I’m middleweight champion of the world.

“People don’t realise I know exactly what I’m doing.”

Robert Whittaker thinks Dricus Du Plessis beats Alex Pereira

After beating Israel Adesanya at UFC 305, the world is beginning to give the middleweight King the respect he deserves.

Robert Whittaker has gone as far as to claim his old rival could beat pound-for-pound number two Alex Pereira.

The Aussie is renowned for his insight into the sport, and gave a detailed breakdown about the challenges Du Plessis and his interesting style would present for the Brazilian.

He even went as far as to warn ‘Poatan’ to steer clear of the 30-year-old at all costs.
