Conor McGregor vs Paddy Pimblett… former UFC heavyweight pitches the battle of the trash talkers

A former UFC heavyweight star would love to see an all-action showdown between Conor McGregor and Paddy Pimblett.

‘The Notorious’ was initially scheduled to make his eagerly-anticipated return to the octagon at UFC 303 in July, until an injury sustained to his little toe forced him to withdraw.

Brendan Schaub wants Conor McGregor vs Paddy Pimblett

For two years, the MMA community waited with bated breath, hoping that a hyped match-up between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler would come to fruition.

Alas, despite coaching a season of The Ultimate Fighter against one another, and even signing the contracts for a clash in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, the pair have yet to settle their differences.

After such a long period of waiting in hope, Chandler has decided to move on, agreeing to face Charles Oliveira in an epic rematch at UFC 309.

Consequently, McGregor has been left out in the cold, without an opponent for his potential comeback.

However, all is not lost, as Brendan Schaub has pitched the idea of an exciting collision that would pit together two of the biggest personalities in the sport, making for not just an intriguing bout, but also likely giving the fans some amazing press conferences.

During a clip posted on his Thiccc Boy, YouTube channel, he said: “Let’s say he [Conor McGregor] doesn’t fight until mid-summer, like Q2, early Q3, let’s say Paddy Pimblett gets one more big win, he just beat Bobby (King) Green, he’s ranked in the top 15, let’s say he gets one more marque win, Paddy Pimblett – Conor, you wouldn’t watch that?

“And it puts Paddy on. Conor has a significant advantage in striking. On the ground, that would be a fun fight. Paddy’s a huge name, man, especially international, massive name, massive star, makes sense.

“You do that, or you do a Max Holloway. That’s what I would do.”

Conor McGregor looks dangerous in new sparring footage

While many are writing off the Irishman from ever returning to the peak of his powers, recent footage seems to indicate he’s still got something left in the tank.

McGregor recently uploaded a video of an explosive spar in which he laced up the boxing gloves and went to work on his opponent.

While competing in the gym isn’t the same as going to war on fight night, fans of the Dubliner will undoubtedly take some solace in the technique he put on show.

The video showcased McGregor landing a plethora of thunderous shots.
