Daniel Dubois knocks out Anthony Joshua in heavyweight boxing clash
On Saturday night at Wembley Stadium in London, Riyadh Season put on a jam-packed card believed to be one of the best of the year. Headlined by Joshua and Dubois’ heavyweight clash, the night also featured a concert from Oasis star Liam Gallagher and a number of exciting undercard bouts.
There were no knockouts until the co-main event, but that was more than made up for in the final fight of the night. Dubois flew out of the traps early, and landed a knockdown right at the end of the opening round that set him up for a successful evening.
Joshua looked out of sorts throughout the fight, and was put down again in the third round much to the delight of the record-breaking Wembley crowd. It was reported that over 98,000 fans attended on the night, making for one of the highest-attended sporting events ever in the UK.
And it was Dubois’ night as he cemented his spot as IBF champion with another knockdown in the fourth before landing one of the knockouts of the year in the fifth. It had seemed as though he was hurt towards the end of the exchange, but landed one of the most vicious shots of his career to leave his rival flat out.
Joshua was laid out face first, and appeared to have trouble getting back to his feet before trainer Ben Davison threw in the towel. The fight was then waved off, with Dubois making his first defence of the belt which he won when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title after being unable to fight a mandatory challenger.
Conor McGregor goes viral for reactions to Anthony Joshua KO
In his flashy outfit, it was hard to miss Conor McGregor all throughout the broadcast of the big heavyweight showdown. The Irishman was in attendance with his fiancee Dee Devlin, and arrived in style just before the main event.
After making headlines with his interview on the DAZN broadcast, he took his seat at ringside next to two-time heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Spice Girls star Emma Bunton. From there, he remained front and center even as the main event kicked off.
And once Dubois landed his first knockdown, fans began to notice his eclectic reactions to every big moment. Compounded by Fury’s muted responses, McGregor seemed even more manic in comparison as he leapt into the air celebrating the big knockout.
Fans on social media shared the clips across X and Instagram, with many claiming that the Irishman was “jumping for joy” after watching Dubois win. Some joked that he must have put money on the result, which was a huge outside bet given Joshua’s status as favorite.
One viewer even joked that a big win on the upset result could further delay his return to the octagon, writing: “If Conor just won Millions… That’s Party Money he won’t be coming back to the UFC for a while!”
