Gilbert Burns ‘disappointed’ with himself after suffering third consecutive loss to Sean Brady at UFC Vegas 97… ‘I couldn’t let it go’

A dejected Gilbert Burns shared how he was ‘disappointed’ with himself for not implementing the gameplan as he dropped a unanimous decision to Sean Brady last night at UFC Vegas 97.

Whilst it certainly wasn’t a vintage Gilbert Burns in the octagon last night in Las Vegas, the Brazilian fan favorite showed that he still has a place amongst the best welterweights in the world, even if he is now 0-3 in his last three bouts.

Gilbert Burns drops to 0-3 in his last three fights against Sean Brady

In the main event of UFC Vegas 97 last night, Sean Brady extended his UFC record to 7-1 as he put on a dominant performance to deliver Gilbert Burns his third consecutive loss in a row.

Whilst ‘Durinho’ did have fleeting moments of success both on the feet and in the scrambles, it was too little too late as Brady ran away with the contest thanks to a much-improved gas tank.

In fact, Burns was surprisingly outstruck in every round and controlled for over 10 minutes, even when the fight did hit the ground, with the judges’ scorecards ultimately reading 50-45, 50-45, and 49-26 in favor of the inked-up American.

A disheartened Gilbert Burns spoke to Charly Arnolt via ESPN MMA after losing via unanimous decision to Brady last night in Las Vegas, with ‘Durinho’ explaining that he just couldn’t get going against the surging American contender.

“I’m a little bit disappointed, I know I have the grit, and I know that I can fight hard but I didn’t let it go… I felt great this whole freaking week, I feel good in training camp and this morning was great.

“But it didn’t flow, it just didn’t flow,” stated Burns, who said that “nothing was good” about his performance as he also tipped his hat to the work ethic and tactics of his opponent.

“He was quick, and I was kind seeing his punches, I saw he hit a couple good takedowns, but I didn’t let it go… Props to Sean, he’s a tough one; I hit him with some good shots, but I think I forced the finish too much you know, couple flying knees, couple big shots but didn’t set it up so hats off to Sean.

“I couldn’t let it go,” continued the former title challenger, later acknowledging that the kicker isn’t the loss itself, but the manner in which he couldn’t implement the gameplan.

“I’ve got to go back to the lab, go back to the gym and talk to Henry – that’s what sucks about that, it’s not even a loss itself is the thing I still have in myself – I’m going to watch that clip like 300 times tonight until we start writing down all the mistakes, get back to the lab and try to get better.”

Given how Burns is now 38 years old and is riding a three-fight losing streak, the fan-favorite contender noted that he was unsure of his next move, although he’s looking forward to some well-deserved time off with the family.

“I don’t know, that’s a good question – I didn’t thought about that [prior to the fight] so I gotta re-think, got to go back to my coaches and see what’s next. I’m going to go back and spend time with the family, go back to training.

“I have no injuries thank God, like I lost but at least the body is feeling good… So I got to give a little time with the family, get back to training and see what’s next.”

Burns entered the UFC Apex as the #6 ranked welterweight contender in the world, with the expectation being that he and #8 ranked Sean Brady will swap places come Tuesday’s update.
