Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson gives the edge to Frank Mir over Henry Cejudo at UFL 5

In their remarkable careers, both Frank Mir and Henry Cejudo proved their fighting prowess beyond doubt, showcasing incredible grappling skills en route to winning UFC world titles.

However, they’re now passing their knowledge onto the next generation, with the pair serving as coaches in a 5 vs 5 competition at UFL 5 on Friday evening.

Mir will lead Team Vegas into battle, while Cejudo will take on the reins at Team Phoenix, as the pair do whatever it takes to guide their respective squads to victory.

The major event will push the two captains to their limits as they pit their remarkable mixed martial arts IQs against one another to give their fighters the best possible tactics.

However, while Cejudo has home advantage, with the event taking place at the Gila River Resorts & Casino in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson still believes Mir has the edge.

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, he explained: “I think Frank will have the advantage of experience because he’s been doing it longer than Henry. But other than that, they’re both very knowledgeable about the sport, techniques and strategies. I think the thing that sets Frank apart is the experience because they’re both very smart and really good with putting things together and setting stuff up.

“I watch them both talk about MMA and how they carry themselves. This is going to be a very exciting match-up, even for me, to watch to see who comes out on top.”

The winner of the revolutionary event, will be decided by a scoring system, that actively encourages knockouts and submissions.

Stoppage in Round One = 4 points

Stoppage in Round Two = 3 points

Stoppage in Round Three = 2 points

Win by Decision = 1 point

The main event title bout, between Phoenix’s own UFL champion Hunter Azure and fellow UFL vet Vince Morales, will have more points on the line.

Stoppage in Round One = 6 points

Stoppage in Round Two = 5 points

Stoppage in Round Three = 4 points

Stoppage in Round Four = 3 points

Stoppage in Round Five = 2 points

Win by Decision = 1 point

If the scores are even after five bouts, the team that accomplished their points tally in the shortest time will be declared the victor.

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson says the prize money at stake ‘sweetens the deal’

While competing for their city, and indeed, themselves, is bound to mean a lot to the fighters, Rampage claims that the incentive of a cash bonus will prompt them to go the extra mile.

He said: “It’s always nice to get a little extra $50,000 bonus for the team. Cheddar makes it better, baby. Making a little extra money on top sweetens the deal.”

The former UFC champion is an ambassador for the promotion that offers all athletes under multi-fight contracts health insurance and shares in the company.

Rampage beamed: “That’s the main reason I teamed up with UFL is because they’re putting the fighters first. It’s very refreshing. I wish they had this when I was coming up.”
