Torrez Finney recently returned for his second appearance in the Apex on Dana White’s Contender Series season 8 and despite picking up a win, Dana White slammed him and didn’t give him a UFC contract.
Last October, undefeated MMA prospect Torrez Finney competed on Dana White’s Contender Series where he was hoping to earn himself a UFC contract.
The 25-year-old ended up picking up a win over Yuri Panferov after submitting him in round two, but UFC CEO Dana White decided not to offer him a contract at the time and told him to go out and get some more experience before returning.
Torrez Finney fires back at Dana White for DWCS comments
Finney returned on week 2 of season 8 where he was matched up with Cam Rowston, teammate of Israel Adesanya.
Again, the undefeated wrestling specialist picked up a win but this time, the fight went to the scorecards where he won 29-28 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Despite picking up what was his second win on DWCS and remaining undefeated, White was brutally honest with the 25-year-old and told him following his fight that he would get ‘absolutely decimated’ by fighters currently in the UFC’s middleweight division.
The UFC boss also went in on Finney for only fighting once since his last DWCS fight, stating that he told him to go out and get three or four fights.
However, since then, Finney has responded to Dana White by providing key information that would explain why he wasn’t able to go out and get more fights.
“I didn’t take it personally, but I will say a lot of the things that was said was a little bit flawed,” Finney began to explain in an interview with MMA Today on Sirius XM.
“I don’t think a lot of people know this, but I was selected to be on The Ultimate Fighter, this year. Whenever you sign the Ultimate Fighter contract, you are negated not to fight during that time span.
“So during that time span in January, I couldn’t fight for January, February, and March. So right when I was selected, or right when they made the selection part, the day before they’re about to take your phones, the head producer comes up to my room and says, ‘Hey we’re going a different route’,” Finney continued.
Torrez Finney given advice by another fighter who was snubbed by Dana White
Hopefully, Finney will now go back to the regional scene before finally being awarded a UFC contract, as another DWCS appearance is highly unlikely.
Having said that, things could go in a completely different direction for the 25-year-old, and someone else who experienced something similar is 2022 PFL featherweight champion, Brendan Loughnane.
Unfortunately for the Brit despite his violent career, he is most well-known for being the man who picked up an impressive win on the Contender Series but was never offered a contract.
Loughnane has admitted several times that the UFC not giving him a contract was the best thing that ever happened to him as he made more money fighting with the PFL.
Loughnane has since advised that Finney move on with his career instead of hanging around and waiting for another opportunity from the UFC.
