Conor McGregor has insisted that Anthony Joshua actually asked to be given some of his beer during a viral moment between the pair last year.
The Irishman was in attendance last August for the two-time heavyweight boxing champion’s comeback fight with Robert Helenius as a sponsor of the event. He attracted a lot of attention ringside and even got between the ropes at one stage as he demanded a bare knuckle boxing match with YouTuber KSI.
But the most memorable moment of the night saw the UFC legend meeting Joshua after the fight, and seemingly forcing him to drink a pint of his Forged Irish Stout. He is now clearing up the story a year later, insisting that the memes may not be fully correct.

Conor McGregor corrects the record over viral Anthony Joshua beer incident
For his part, Conor McGregor insists that Anthony Joshua had asked him for a taste of his Forged Irish Stout, which was a major sponsor of the event. The former two-weight champion then felt it was appropriate to give the boxer a sip of his own pint, while he still had his gloves on.
“One year ago today,” McGregor wrote on his Instagram, tagging his Stout business. “Busy year! Also for the record I didn’t make Joshua do anything. He exited the ring post his amazing victory and came straight to me and said ‘where is my Forged!’ I gave him mine.
“It was the first time that had happened at a fight. It’s seriously tasty and incredibly refreshing, you won’t get better! I don’t blame him one bit and I am sure he enjoyed it throughly after the fight. So much so he ordered multiple keg loads of it to his local pub! Top man, top fighter, top Stout!”
Conor McGregor heaps praise on Matchroom Boxing amid partnership
Conor McGregor has a famously strong relationship with Matchroom Boxing and their promoter Eddie Hearn. He has sponsored a number of their major shows involving the likes of Joshua and Katie Taylor, and also works with a number of fighters under their banner.

“Our partnership with Matchroom Boxing has been so good and with their fighters also” he continued during his post. “This is the fighters stout; Forged Irish Stout. For the working man and woman! What a year it has been for Forged.
“I am very proud and grateful and extremely driven being at the helm of this quality product. It’s quality, point blank. BEST ON THE MARKET BY FAR! We have some mega announcements coming soon for you all, stay tuned! FORGED ARMY!”
Conor McGregor eyeing December UFC return despite Dana White’s denial
McGregor has been out of the octagon since the summer of 2021, when he suffered a gruesome broken leg against Dustin Poirier. He was due to return in Las Vegas this summer, but was forced out of UFC 303 with a broken toe.
He is set to face Michael Chandler whenever he does return, and had appeared to set December as the month for his comeback. That would have landed him on UFC 310 in Las Vegas, but promoter Dana White recently claimed that he wouldn’t be fighting this year.

However, McGregor has disputed this, tweeting White: “Ah Dana, December is the date! Bring the calendar year home with a winning event! Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare. DECEMBER! Tell Dana and UFC WE WANT DECEMBER! WE DESERVE DECEMBER!”
He and Chandler have both expressed a keen interest in fighting before Christmas, and White has seemingly warmed to the idea. However, he refuses to 100 per cent guarantee anything just yet, and is remaining coy.
