‘That fight will happen’… Conor McGregor’s manager still adamant trilogy fight should happen at The Sphere this year

Conor McGregor’s manager is still adamant that a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz will happen and is hoping that it can take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas, later this year.

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz first met in the Octagon back in 2016, when Diaz pulled off a huge upset, submitting the Irishman in round two.

They then rematched just over five months later and ‘The Notorious’ exacted revenge by picking up the majority decision win, leaving them at one win each.

McGregor is currently preparing for his comeback fight against Michael Chandler which is scheduled to take place at UFC 303, on June 29.

The two were scheduled for a press conference this Monday from the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, but the promotion announced this morning that it has been postponed and is yet to provide a reason, leaving fans speculating.

Conor McGregor’s manager claims the Irishman is ‘zeroed in’ on June 29

Although McGregor has filmed himself partying in his pub, the Black Forge Inn, over the past couple of weekends, his manager, Audie Attar, has attempted to calm fans’ nerves by claiming ‘The Notorious’ is ‘zeroed in’ on UFC 303.

“He’s totally zeroed in on June 29th and that’s exciting and obviously it’s getting closer and closer and so it’s about him just continuing to do what he does and continuing to push himself,” Attar told the New York Post Sports.

“He knows what it takes, this is not new to him. Ultimately though with a long lay-off, you’ve got to make sure you’re fully focused and singularly focused on the task at hand, so we’re trying to do our best as a team to take away a lot of the burden from a business perspective,” Attar added.

Despite the founder of Paradigm Sports Management trying to ease fans’ worries, McGregor’s antics so close to his fight date are causing concern.

Audie Attar adamant Nate Diaz trilogy should take place at The Sphere this year

After finally booking his comeback fight following his horrific leg break against Dustin Poirier back in 2021, the former two-weight world champion is hoping to fight three times this year.

The Irishman is still hopeful that he and Nate Diaz can wrap up their rivalry by completing their trilogy. McGregor has highlighted UFC 306 on September 14 as his desired event to rematch Diaz, with the event set to take place at the Sphere, in Las Vegas.

Audie Attar is adamant that the trilogy between McGregor and Diaz will be completed at some point but blames Diaz for the reason it hasn’t taken place yet.

“Yes, certainly (it’s more Nate’s fault than Conor’s), Nate’s not part of the promotion anymore so I don’t think it has anything to do with Conor. If Nate was still on the roster then that is certainly a great matchup to do on Mexican Independence weekend at the Sphere, it’d be massive.

“You can’t rule out Nate, it’s about Nate getting a deal done with the UFC but that fight will happen, I hope it happens at the Sphere this September, but it’s going to happen (regardless),” Audie Attar added.

Diaz fought his last UFC fight at UFC 279 against Tony Ferguson and since then, has taken his talents to the world of boxing where he has fought and lost against Jake Paul.

The 39-year-old is scheduled to take on Jorge Masvidal in a co-promotion boxing bout on July 6.
