Tom Aspinall makes a huge change to his UFC 304 fight camp… ‘I feel like social media drags me down a lot’

Ahead of his UFC interim heavyweight title defense on July 27th, Tom Aspinall has decided to come off social media for the entirety of his 10-week fight camp.

Before his fight against Curtis Blaydes was announced, Tom Aspinall had been involved in several back-and-forths with the undisputed heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.

Although at one point it seemed his dream fight could become possible, Jones made it clear that he would wait for his fight against Stipe Miocic, instead of fighting the interim champion.

Tom Aspinall giving up social media ahead of UFC 304

After having his fun with ‘Bones’ on X, Aspinall has decided to come off social media for the entirety of his UFC 304 fight camp and has explained why.

“I wanted to do something different for this camp, I realized that I spend a lot of time on social media, I don’t like how much time I spend on it.” Aspinall told TheMacLife.

“In the time between training sessions now for the full camp, I want to be resting. I feel like social media drags me down a lot.” he added.

Despite the 31-year-old deciding to take a social media hiatus, Aspinall had to get his family and friends on board, as he didn’t want them to be sending him screenshots of things Jones had said while he is in camp.

“What I did, people I speak to regularly on WhatsApp, I sent a blanket voice note and I was like listen, I’m staying off social media for fight camp, I’ve got someone else posting for me, I don’t want anybody to screenshot anything about fighting, about any comments, I don’t want to know about it.

“I want to focus 100% on beating Curtis Blaydes and that’s what I’m doing, so you can speak to me about normal stuff but I don’t want screenshots and updates on the MMA world.” Aspinall explained.

Tom Aspinall has his last word on the Jon Jones feud

Jones has predicted that ‘Razor’ Blaydes will pull off the upset in Manchester at UFC 304, and that Tom Aspinall’s hype train will be derailed.

“Well he might (beat me), it’s heavyweight MMA at the top level, someone always might win.” Aspinall responded.

“I believe in myself yeah, I think I’m good, I think I’m the best in the world, but does that make me invincible, no absolutely not. It’s heavyweight MMA, one shot off Curtis and the ref might be waking me up, that’s how it works, this is heavyweight MMA at the peak.” he added.

Aware of the danger he is in against Blaydes, Aspinall used it as an opportunity to take one last jab at the 36-year-old champion.

“Of course, there’s a chance that I could get knocked out, I’m fully aware of that. But I’m putting it on the line and quite frankly, (Jones) isn’t.” Aspinall stated.

The Brit has spent a short amount of time in America ahead of his fight on July 27th, training with top-level coach, Eric Nicksick, but has now returned to his gym in the UK to begin his full fight camp.
