Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is confused by his former rival, Colby Covington’s most recent callout.
Ian Machado Garry called Colby Covington out for a fight at UFC 303 on June 29th but Covington turned down the offer and instead decided to make a callout of his own.
After former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira was beaten at UFC 300 by Arman Tsarukyan, he admitted that he would consider moving up to 170 lbs for a ‘legacy’ fight, instead of chasing the 155lb strap again.
With that, Covington saw it as an opportunity to call out ‘Do Bronx’ and claimed that he is the ‘King of Brazil’.

Kamaru Usman confused by Colby Covington’s callout of Oliveira
Kamaru Usman, who has beaten Covington twice during their intense past rivalry, has stated that he is confused by the 36-year-old and his decision to turn down Garry in the hopes of securing a fight with the Brazilian.
“My thing is hey, the Ian Garry fight had a lot of heat on it, a lot of steam on it, if you said no to that fight then why would you now say you want to fight Charles Oliveira?” Usman questioned on the Pound 4 Pound Podcast.
After Machado Garry called out Covington, the former interim champion made a response video, ordering Garry to follow three stipulations if he wanted to fight him. Despite that, the fight never seemed to come close to being booked for the desired June 29th date.
“That’s not a good look Mr Covington, that’s not a good look. I don’t get that, why would you turn down a young streaking guy like Ian Garry?
“Colby busted heavy shots at Ian Garry (online) and I’m going to be honest, they landed because in a couple of those videos, I thought I saw a tear about to fall out of (Garry’s) eye.” Usman added.
Mateusz Gamrot disappointed in Charles Oliveira considering Covington fight
With Oliveira still occupying rank two in the lightweight division, he still has fellow 155lbers calling him out as they want to take his spot in the rankings.
The most recent lightweight to call for a fight against the 34-year-old is Mateusz Gamrot. ‘Gamer’ is riding a three fight win streak, but still needs a big name on his resume to put himself into title contention.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) Gamrot trashed ‘Do Bronx’ for considering a fight against Covington instead of him. “I asked to fight Oliveira, but he called out Colby instead. Guy who only fights once a year and is 2-3 since 2019.
“We thought you were better than that (Charles Oliveira). You know I’ll give you fire on the ground, but maybe that’s why you’d rather fight Colby.” Gamrot added.
Although both Oliveira and Covington have expressed interest in fighting each other, it is unclear whether the promotion are looking to make that fight.
