Ex-UFC champion claims Conor McGregor declined ‘two opportunities’ to fight him as he fires back following online dig

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has fired back at Conor McGregor following a dig online from the Irishman.

Earlier this week, Conor McGregor took part in a livestream, in which he talked about a multitude of different fighters.

Kamaru Usman was one of the names on McGregor’s mind, as the Irishman called the former welterweight champion a ‘bum’ and a ‘bald malteaser head’.

The 37-year-old is currently going through the roughest patch of his career thus far, losing his last three fights, with his most recent being a loss to Khamzat Chimaev.

Kamaru Usman fires back at McGregor following his comments

During the livestream, McGregor also talked about current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards and his upcoming title fight against Belal Muhammad.

The Irishman believes that with a win over Michael Chandler at UFC 303, he can earn himself a welterweight title shot, and will look to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold a title in three different weight classes.

“It’s more than just money, at what point does this become more than money, at what point does this become the integrity of the sport?” Usman questioned on the Pound 4 Pound Podcast.

“Conor is who Conor is, Conor has done some pretty fantastic things in this sport of MMA and for the UFC, but Conor so have I.” Usman added.

The 37-year-old mostly took issue with McGregor calling him a ‘bum’ and has questioned why the Irishman is kicking him while he is down.

“What I have a little issue with is when you come around and say ‘he’s a bum’, you can’t say that Conor. I didn’t kick him when he was down, he’s had runnings with the law, he’s had back-to-back incidents and situations but you never heard me sit there and kick him while he was down.

“I’m not a bum, clearly, because if you wanted the opportunity to fight me, I gave Conor two opportunities to fight me while I was champion.” Usman revealed.

Kamaru Usman questions how seriously McGregor is taking his comeback fight

The last time Conor McGregor stepped into the Octagon, Usman was still the welterweight king. In 2021, ‘The Notorious’ broke his leg at the end of round one of his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.

During his time away from the UFC, the 35-year-old has seemingly been enjoying his time in several different ways. Usman has warned McGregor that he needs to ‘put down the whiskey’ bottle and take his fight against Chandler seriously.

“What (Conor) needs to be worried about is Michael Chandler, because Michael Chandler is training and Conor, you need to put that whiskey bottle down and you need to get to training. This isn’t the time, this doesn’t call for you trolling.

“Conor put that whiskey bottle down and you need to prepare for your fight because at the end of the day, this is not a sport that you play with, this sport will humble you. You would think it’s humbled him a couple of times now, but he is who he is.” Usman finished.
