Ahead of his comeback fight at UFC 303 this coming June, Conor McGregor has claimed it is time for the promotion to introduce a belt dedicated to him.
Conor McGregor‘s UFC return against Michael Chandler is just over a month away and will be contested at 170lbs.
The last time ‘The Notorious’ fought at welterweight was back in 2020 when he defeated Donald Cerrone in the first round of his then-comeback fight.
Despite being the main event at UFC 303, the fight between McGregor and Chandler will not be for a belt, contrary to speculation when the fight was announced.

Conor McGregor believes ‘it’s time’ the UFC introduce a ‘McGregor belt’
After winning all there is to win during his UFC tenure, McGregor has admitted that he has no interest in reclaiming the lightweight title, but is interested in both the welterweight title and the ‘BMF’ title.
“How excited would I be to cut that weight again after winning it already? I’d be excited about the ‘Bad Motherf*****’ title and I’d be excited about the welterweight title.” McGregor stated on a live stream with Duelbits.
When McGregor’s comeback fight was finally announced, fans speculated that it would be for a new 165lb title, however, that didn’t come to fruition.
‘Iron’ Michael Chandler also admitted after the announcement that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if the UFC introduced a new title for the huge bout.
After becoming the biggest name in combat sports, the Irishman has ordered that the UFC introduce a ‘McGregor belt’ to mark what he has done in the sport.

Conor McGregor teases ‘huge’ international event will take place ahead of UFC 303
In the lead-up to his 2015 fight against Jose Aldo, the UFC scheduled press conferences which took place in both Brazil and Ireland.
Ahead of his comeback on June 29th, the former double champion has teased that something similar will happen for his fight against Michael Chandler.
“We have a huge announcement coming regarding traveling the globe, an event that will take place prior to June 29th between myself and my opponent and I’m excited to announce it to you all. You guys are going to love it, and I’m going to love it also.” McGregor teased.
With a win at UFC 303, the 35-year-old could jump to the front of the welterweight title shot queue and become the first fighter ever to win a title in three different weight classes.
