Former UFC star makes one promise for when he returns to the promotion… ‘I know I could be the champion’

Former UFC star Darren Till has promised that he will win a title on his eventual return to the promotion, despite his next fight being in boxing.

Darren Till was once regarded as one of the UFC’s biggest active stars as he climbed his way up the welterweight division.

‘The Gorilla’s’ name value even led to the UFC hosting their first-ever event in Liverpool in 2018, which he headlined against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, beating him over a five-round decision.

Till then went on to fight then-champion, Tyron Woodley four months later at UFC 228, but was dominated and subsequently submitted in round two.

A rough stint followed for the Liverpudlian, and he left the promotion in 2022 after losing against Dricus Du Plessis.

Darren Till vows to return to the UFC and win a title

Despite going on a three-fight losing skid and exiting the promotion – which was his decision, not the UFC’s – Till has vowed that he will return to the UFC in the near future and will win a title.

“That’s the goal for me, I’m going to win a UFC title, I know I am.” Darren Till claimed on The MMA Hour.

“I speak to the UFC bosses all the time, they just invited me to Manchester (UFC 304). They asked me if I was going to Manchester and I said ‘Yeah I’m going to wait for some tickets to come out and buy some’, they were like ‘Don’t be silly Till, come as our guest’, I have a good relationship with them.” Till added.

Since his exit from the promotion the 31-year-old has hinted at possible fights in Bare Knuckle Boxing and boxing, and it seemed as though he was going to fight fellow former UFC fighter, Mike Perry.

‘Platinum’ Mike Perry has become the face of Bare Knuckle Boxing and has called Till out several times, even claiming that the Brit turned down a $2m offer to fight him at Knuckle Mania this past month.

Darren Till has since disputed Perry’s claims, stating that he doesn’t want to compete in Bare Knuckle Boxing, because he feels it is where fighters go when they’re at the end of their careers.

In the scouser’s last fight against Du Plessis, he showed glimpses of his exciting style and came close to beating who is now the middleweight champion.

“Dricus is beating everyone, I beat him up for two rounds before he stopped me. That p***** me off a little bit because I know I could be the champion.” he added.

Darren Till’s next fight will be in boxing as he teases announcement

After being inactive from combat sports for the past two years, ‘The Gorilla’ finally has something on the horizon, claiming that the announcement is imminent.

Although Till didn’t reveal who his next opponent would be, he did reveal that it would be in a boxing capacity and that he has signed with a boxing promoter.

“Give me a few days and there’s going to be a big announcement. I think everyone waiting thinking Till’s just fading off into the background, I think they’re really going to be happy with this announcement.

“I’m going to come into this boxing scene in a storm and then I’m going to go back to the UFC get a title and say right, I did it I was one of the best see you later, bye-bye.” he finished.
