Colby Covington denies ‘liar’ Ian Garry’s recent fight claims as he highlights next possible opponent

The feud between UFC welterweight’s Colby Covington and Ian Garry continues to spiral, as Covington shuts down ‘liar’ Ian Garry’s recent claims.

At UFC 301 in Brazil this past Saturday, undefeated welterweight Ian Garry, claimed that Colby Covington is continuing to ‘run’ away from a possible fight, stating that he has been offered the fight, but ‘Chaos’ hasn’t accepted.

The 36-year-old last fought in December at UFC 296, coming up short in an undisputed title fight for the third time. After losing convincingly to Leon Edwards, Covington revealed after the fight that he broke his foot in round one.

Since then, the American has claimed he has ‘unfinished business’ with ‘Rocky’, with him looking to earn a fourth career title fight.

Colby Covington shuts down Garry’s recent fight rejection claims

After ‘The Future’ accused Covington of running away from fight offers, ‘Chaos’ responded by calling the Irishman a ‘liar’ and claimed that he hadn’t been offered the fight.

“Now we know that he’s a liar, because the UFC, Hunter (Campbell), Dana (White) they haven’t talked to me about this fight, this fight has not been presented, he’s just lying and trying to get clickbait.” Covington revealed on The Rush With Maxx Crosby.

Covington – who is currently ranked fourth in the division – went on to question why he should go back in the rankings to fight Garry who is currently ranked number seven.

“Why do I have to go back in the rankings to fight him, he does nothing for me. I have a great contract with the UFC, I’m going to get paid good whoever I fight so I don’t need to fight him.

“I’d rather fight someone ahead of me and get back to a title fight, I want Leon (Edwards), that’s who I want. I want to show the world that I’m healthy and can beat anyone in the world, I’m the best welterweight in the world right now.” Colby added.

Covington highlights Belal Muhammad as a possible next opponent instead

With a fight between Covington and Garry looking increasingly unlikely, especially for UFC 303 – which is when Garry wants the fight – ‘Chaos’ has highlighted Belal Muhammad as his next possible opponent.

‘Remember The Name’ is likely fighting Edwards for the welterweight title next, but Covington wants him next because he’s higher than him in the rankings.

“I love this company with all my heart they’ve changed my life, made me a multi-millionaire so I’m so thankful to them, so I’m going to let them decide but I don’t know, maybe this kid ‘Bayley Muhammad’ who’s been talking a lot.

“He’s up there in the rankings above me so I think if I beat that guy it gets me right back to a title fight. I could fight Joe Schmo off the street and I’m going to get the same paycheck and it’s going to be a high-level fight.” Covington claimed.

Although the 36-year-old believes he is one more win away from another title shot, because of the way the 170lb division is stacked up, he may be a few wins away from realizing a fourth title shot.
