Mike Perry slapped with suspension following Thiago Alves KO… But promises to fight again soon

Bare knuckle boxing star Mike Perry is promising to get back into the ring sooner than later, but he may be forced to wait after receiving a post-fight medical suspension.

Perry is already eyeing up a massive showdown with Darren Till as well as toying with the idea of facing Dillon Danis as he looks towards his next moves. After leaving the UFC and immediately landing a win in Triad Combat at the end of 2021, he moved to BKFC where he is undefeated at 5-0.

Since moving into the BKFC ‘squared circle’ Perry has emerged as one of the most exciting fighters in combat sports. He has even been noticed and touted for fights and face-offs with the likes of Logan Paul and Conor McGregor as his star continues to rise.

Mike Perry confirms ‘quick turnaround’ for next BKFC fight after Thiago Alves win

Perry made waves with his one-minute stoppage win over Thiago Alves which saw the Brazilian MMA legend sent into retirement from combat sports. He immediately took to the microphone to call for a showdown with his long-time rival Till, and is now entertaining other options.

In a new Instagram post he teased potentially meeting with Dillon Danis months after initially facing off with the jiu-jitsu black belt. The pair almost fought at the Misfits Boxing Prime Card when Danis faced Logan Paul last October, with Perry weighing in as the back-up opponent.

Whoever he fights, the bare knuckle star believes it will be soon. “The story has just begun now that I have built myself into the right position,” he wrote towards the end of a lengthy Instagram post today. “Thank you all! Quick turn around and there should be big event NEWS coming soon.”

Mike Perry slapped with 60-day medical suspension after Thiago Alves win

Perry and Alves’ headlining fight took place at BKFC’s big Knucklemania event on Saturday night. It served as the first major bare knuckle boxing event in California since the sport was legalised earlier this year.

Even though he won in quick fashion, Perry did suffer a large cut in one of the early exchanges and as such has been hit with a lengthy medical suspension. He must sit out for 60-days according to the California State Athletic Commissions list of suspensions from the show.

Alves has since retired from fighting, but will also face a 45-day suspension with 30-days no contact after being stopped. Perry’s non-contact period is subject to a physician’s examination and could be reduced if he is cleared before the end of the 60 days.

Mike Perry heaps praise as he reveals coach who changed his life for BKFC run

After being branded the ‘most dominant athlete in sports’ by UFC legend Chael Sonnen, Perry has expressed his gratitude to his new team. He famously fought without a corner, aside from his girlfriend, in one UFC fight but now has a trainer that has made him a top bare knuckle boxer.

Sonnen noted that his transformation appears to have been done without any input from a new team, but Perry disputed that by writing on Instagram: “Let it be known [James Taylor] and [Teknique Boxing] is where I’m coached.

“Me and God put this team together, my wife [Latory Perry] is so strong mentally and takes no s*** from me and expects the best out of me and I’m blessed to have her. Coach JT is as passionate about the legacy we’re building as I am, he wants to help me protect myself best I can and I love him like my own brother.

“My manager is like a brother to me who is willing to risk his own ass to get me the opportunities and get me the chance with the corporation that has also put themselves at risk with the chances they’ve given me BKFC, my friend Danny Mosaic who chose to use his talent to capture footage and documents and wants to be close to the action to get the best shot.

“All connected to a great group of family and believers who have known the struggles of hardships in life and can stand up for me being willing to fight to change my families future, lots of young men who look up to me so I must represent what it is to be a real man day in and day out.”
