‘Couldn’t stand her’… Former UFC commentator offers behind-the-scenes insight about Ronda Rousey

The biggest name in women’s MMA, Ronda Rousey, has been making headlines recently as she has opened up about her final years with the UFC.

Ronda Rousey has been making the headlines again recently after she recently released her memoir, ‘Our Life’, and has opened up a lot about the tail end of her UFC tenure.

The pioneer of women’s MMA admitted on Instagram live that the main reason she retired from MMA was because of repeated concussions and that she fought for the majority of her UFC tenure with concussions.

‘Rowdy’ Ronda then sent shots to MMA media recently on The Chris Cuomo Show, calling them a ‘bunch of a**holes’ for the way it portrayed her words.

Rousey lost her final two UFC fights to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, subsequently taking her skills to the WWE.

Ronda Rousey claims Joe Rogan turned on her with the rest of MMA media

The 37-year-old included UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, in her comments regarding the media turning on her, stating that in a way, she is grateful because it resulted in her separating herself from certain people.

“It was really disappointing to see how happily everyone turned on me and people like Joe Rogan, who were crying in the ring about how the honor of being able to call my fights, people I considered friends in the media so quickly turned on me.

“I also am kind of grateful for it in a way because it forced me to separate other people’s perception of me from my own perception of myself.” Rousey added.

Former fellow color commentator for the UFC, Jimmy Smith, has come out and backed his peers, firing back at Ronda Rousey and her comments about the media.

Jimmy Smith fires back at Ronda Rousey and peels back the curtain

Smith joined the UFC commentary team as a color commentator back in 2018, and his time with the promotion only lasted a year, as in 2019, they decided not to renew his contract.

Although Smith didn’t commentate any of Rousey’s fights, he has shared his insight and has claimed what Ronda was like behind the curtain.

“I’ve never been a religious person but one thing is always said about God, he gets all the credit and none of the blame, that’s Ronda Rousey.” Smith said on Unlocking the Cage with Jimmy Smith.

The former commentator went on to say that Rousey wanted all the credit when she won her fights, but when she suffered losses, she couldn’t ever credit her opponent.

“I don’t talk a lot out of school or about behind the scenes, but let me let you in on something, the people behind the scenes: the camera people, audio people, the people you could push around and the people you could bully and talk down to, can’t stand your f****** ass.” Smith added.

Smith explained that although the people Rousey was ‘mean’ to were trying to help hype her fights up, Ronda didn’t treat them well, and when she was knocked out twice in her last two fights, the same people ‘cheered’.

“Everyone behind the scenes that had to put a mic on Ronda Rousey couldn’t stand her. I said why? They said ‘because she was a b**** to us from the moment she sat down, to the moment she got up.’

“They were cheering when she got knocked out. Those are people you can be mean and rude to, and they can’t fight back. Those people couldn’t stand Rousey, so don’t sit there and tell me you’re the victim.” Smith explained.
