Michael ‘Venom’ Page details exactly why he ‘hates’ welterweight rival… ‘He’s trying too hard to stay relevant’

Following his successful promotional debut at UFC 299 in March, Michael ‘Venom’ Page has been looking ahead at who his next opponent could be.

After immediately entering the 170lb rankings following his win over Kevin Holland, Michael Page opened up several possibilities for his next UFC outing.

The fanbase has long salivated over the thought of ‘MVP’ versus Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, but the Londoner explained following his win over Holland, that the possible fight with Thompson wouldn’t be as exciting as the fans think.

UFC commentator, Michael Bisping, stated that the fight he thinks makes the most sense for the 37-year-old is Ian Garry.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s options for his next UFC outing

The UFC recently announced their return to the UK is confirmed for July 27th and Page will likely be highlighting that UFC 304 event as his next fight date.

Prior to his win over ‘The Trailblazer’, the London Shootfighter product explained how his ideal scenario would be a title fight against Leon Edwards at a stadium in the UK. However, he is likely two more wins away from that being a possibility.

Unfortunately for the 13th-ranked welterweight, there aren’t many options for him inside the top 10 of the division.

Gilbert Burns is currently riding a two-fight losing streak, and will likely need to defend his number-six ranking again in his next fight, with that being a fight that could make sense for Page.

The only other option for the 37-year-old in the top 10, is Geoff Neal. ‘Handz of Steel’ is also riding a two-fight losing streak and will be looking to return to the win column.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page explains his ‘hate’ for Colby Covington and would ‘100%’ fight him next

Colby Covington has been going back and forth with fellow welterweight contender, Ian Garry, regarding a potential title eliminator fight, but that idea seems to have hit a brick wall.

Garry has claimed that Covington isn’t interested in the fight because of his foot injury sustained in his loss to Leon Edwards back in December, despite the continuation of their recent feud.

‘Venom’ Page has also made his disdain for Covington known, stating that he would ‘100%’ fight Covington next, if the opportunity arose.

“I hate this guy (Covington)” Page admitted in an interview with the UFC. “I find him fake, he doesn’t seem like a nice guy. All the stuff that came out last time about what fighters should and shouldn’t be allowed to talk about with regards to fighters going deep now, talking about each other’s wives and moms and dads.” Page added.

The 37-year-old is referencing the UFC 296 press conference when Covington made a comment about Leon Edwards’ late father, sparking a ruckus.

“He was very much into it, and I didn’t like that. I come from a Martial Arts background so that’s not the way we do things. I think he’s trying too hard to stay relevant.” Page explained.

Before his loss to Edwards, ‘Chaos’ claimed that he wanted to fight in the UK, and a fight against Page on what is likely Leon Edwards’ undercard, may pique his interest.
