Sean O’Malley claims discussions with the UFC for a boxing crossover fight have previously taken place… ‘If it makes us enough money’

Sean O’Malley shared his reaction to Ryan Garcia’s big boxing win over Devin Haney this past Saturday, with a video mocking Garcia.

Ryan Garcia pulled off the shock upset by beating Devin Haney over a majority decision. Before the fight, there was a lot of concern for Garcia’s mental well-being as he spent months acting uncharacteristically on social media.

Sean O’Malley’s next UFC fight is still unconfirmed

Sean O’Malley recently defended his UFC bantamweight title against Marlon Vera at UFC 299, and his next opponent has seemingly already been confirmed as Merab Dvalishvili.

‘Suga’ is targeting his next fight for UFC 306 at the Sphere in Las Vegas, with the event scheduled to take place on September 14th.

Despite the 29-year-old calling for the fight against Dvalishvili in September, it has yet to be officially booked by the UFC.

“I’m trying to get it booked as soon as possible, the only issue is some of the next PPVs aren’t in the country and I’m not fighting out of the country, but I’m ready to go, I’m ready to book a fight as soon as possible.” O’Malley revealed on the latest episode of the Timbo and Suga show.

“God I just want to hit him (Merab Dvalishvili) with a knee, boom, flatline him.” he added.

Sean O’Malley eyeing a boxing fight against Ryan Garcia

O’Malley claimed that he is likely two more big wins away from being able to do a possible crossover boxing fight (whilst still in his UFC contract), because of how big of a star he will become.

“A boxing fight is possible, for sure” Suga claimed. “I’m not there yet, I’ve still got to become bigger. Two more f****** sick performances then we’re talking about being able to do whatever the f*** we want.

“They told me ‘you can do a boxing fight 100%, if it makes us enough money’, so the option is there it just has to be able to make enough money.” Suga added.

Historically, it is not something the UFC has been keen on doing.

Conor McGregor is the only fighter who has previously been allowed such luxury when he boxed Floyd Mayweather in 2017. Part of the reason Francis Ngannou couldn’t come to terms on a new UFC deal, was because they wouldn’t allow him to compete in boxing as part of his contract.

The current bantamweight champion went on to state that it would need to be against a boxer who can sell a fight, and referenced Ryan Garcia’s ability to do just that.

“Ryan (Garcia) being a f****** freak like that, you need two A-sides to make (it as successful as the Mayweather-McGregor fight).” O’Malley finished.
